Residential Green Waste Disposal Event
The Solano Fire Safe Council is offering unincorporated Solano County residents two opportunities to participate in a free green waste disposal event.
Decreasing the fuel load around your home and property is an important step in keeping you and your community safe. One of the most important things you can do is maintain a defensible space around your home. This means clearing away dead brush and keeping the grass around your home short. This can help to slow the spread of a wildfire and give firefighters a better chance of protecting your home.
However, it is important to note that whether working to create defensible space around your home, just mowing the lawn, or pulling your truck and trailer over to the side of the road, if you live in a wildland area you need to use all equipment responsibly. Lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, grinders, welders, tractors, and trimmers can all spark a wildland fire.
This also means mowing before 10 a.m., but never when it’s windy or excessively dry. Lawn mowers are designed to mow lawns, not weeds or dry grass.
Rural (unincorporated) residents who wish to participate in the Solano Fire Safe Council’s upcoming no-cost green waste disposal events have two opportunities. The first is from 8 a.m. to noon this Saturday, August 3. A second event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 10.
