SUPERVISOR MONICA BROWN CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 11 (05/21/2020)
Hello Benicia, Fairfield and Vallejo,
Welcome to my most recent coronavirus update. I hope you are all staying safe during this time. If I can ever be of assistance to you, please feel free to reach out to me at mebrown@solanocounty.com or at 707-784-3031.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce Solano County has seen more residents pass away from Covid-19. My heart goes out to their families. Please honor their memories by taking all necessary precautions to stop the spread of this virus. This update is dedicated to the memory of the most recent victims of Covid-19 in Solano County.
I want to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to all of those who have served our country in uniform.
I want to reiterate that I understand this has been a difficult time for all of us. We have all been negatively impacted by the coronavirus crisis. Please make an extra effort to spread kindness and understanding in our community during this incredibly trying time.
PHASED REOPENING
The county is in the process of a phased reopening. The shelter at home order has been extended indefinitely. However, the order is being modified to accommodate the reopening. Most of the state is currently in phase 2, which allows for lower risk businesses to open.
The county has attested to the state that we meet all the criteria to begin reopening higher risk businesses. The Governor recently changed the criteria for higher risk businesses. Most relevant for Solano County is that counties no longer must show they have gone 14 days without a Covid-19 death. The county has requested a variance and the state has approved it.
Please do not mistake reopening businesses for a return to normal. We will not return to how things were until we have a vaccine to protect us from the virus. Please follow all public health and safety guidelines. Please wash your hands regularly with soap (or hand sanitizer when soap is not readily available), please wear a face covering when you are shopping or around other people. Please stay home if you are feeling ill. Those in high risk groups (65 and older or with underlying health conditions) should stay home as much as possible.
For me personally, I will be limiting my time in public until there is a vaccine. I will go to the grocery store, to pick up food, to the auto shop, to the credit union and to work. Other than that, I will be staying home. I will be wearing a mask when I go out.

FACE COVERING MANDATE
As I stated in last week’s update, there was not enough support for a face covering mandate on the Board of Supervisors or from public health.
I reached out to the Mayors of Benicia, Fairfield and Vallejo and asked that those cities implement a face covering mandate. Mayor Patterson of Benicia and Mayor Sampayan of Vallejo are working on implementing a face covering mandate in their respective cities.
I have also sent a letter to the Governor and Solano County’s state representatives asking for a statewide face covering mandate.

VETERANS HALLS
Memorial weekend is upon us. A day for us to remember the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice. But in this time of Covid-19, our Veteran Halls have suffered financial hardships.
The veteran buildings are used to raise revenue to help the communities that they fought to protect. They rent out the halls that many of used. You might have attended a birthday party, a wedding party, an Eagle Scout ceremony, or a crab feed fund raiser.
The veterans have not been able to rent out their buildings. Their bills, like yours, still need to be paid. On this 3- day weekend, as the county is opening, please help by sending a contribution.
Below are the address’ of each Veterans Memorial Building in District 2:
Benicia Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 1150 1st St Benicia, CA 94510. 707-745-1769 (Checks payable to Benicia Veteran’s Hall Board).
Suisun-Fairfield Veteran’s Memorial Building, 4217 Main St Suisun, CA 94583. 707-429-3110 (Checks payable to Suisun-Fairfield Veteran’s Hall Board).
Vallejo Veteran’s Memorial Building, 420 Admiral Callaghan Lane Vallejo, CA 94591. 707-644-3094 (Checks payable to Vallejo Veteran’s Hall Board).
Thank you for reading my most recent update. As we enter a new phase of reopening the county, please take all necessary precautions. Stay 6 feet apart from others, wear a face covering when visiting businesses, wash your hands regularly with soap and please stay home if you are not feeling well. Let’s all do our part. Take care, stay safe and have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Monica Brown,
