Supervisors Honor County Superintendent on Retirement
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors at their March 10 meeting proclaimed Nancy Magee Day to honor Nancy Magee as she retires after 31 years in public education, including service as County Superintendent since 2018. Magee led the San Mateo County Office of Education with initiatives focused on early learning, student safety & environmental education. Supervisors praised her collaborative leadership and efforts to strengthen school safety and student wellbeing across the county’s 23 school districts, as well as her support for schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Women’s View Exhibition Celebrates Women Artists
The San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture is presenting Women’s View 2026, an annual exhibition celebrating women artists during Women's History Month. More than 100 works are on display through March 29 at the Twin Pines Art Center. The show is presented in partnership with the San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women. A free public reception will be held March 15 from 1 to 3 p.m., featuring refreshments and artist awards at 2 p.m. The exhibition is open Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

County Parks Highlights Wildflower Hikes This Spring
Spring wildflowers are beginning to bloom across San Mateo County Parks, offering colorful displays now through May. Popular viewing spots include San Pedro Valley Park, San Bruno Mountain County Park and Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve, where hikers may spot trillium, lupines, California poppies and Indian paintbrush along scenic trails. Visitors can also check park visitor centers and guided hikes for bloom updates. County Parks is also highlighting spring wildflowers across the park system on Facebook and Instagram throughout March and April.

Property Tax Second Installment Due April 10
The second installment of property taxes in San Mateo County is due by 5 p.m. on April 10. Payments received after the deadline will incur a 10 percent penalty plus a $40 cost. Residents can pay by mail, online, phone, in person or via drop box through the San Mateo County Tax Collector. A 2.35 percent service fee will apply to payments made by credit card or PayPal. Officials also note a new United States Postal Service rule where postmarks reflect when mail is processed at a facility, not when it is dropped off, so early mailing is recommended or requesting a manual postmark.

County Health Launches Foster Program for Pets
San Mateo County Health has launched the Foster Wellness Program, providing temporary care for pets while owners receive inpatient mental health, substance use or medical treatment. The initiative removes a barrier that can prevent people from seeking care by ensuring pets are safely housed with trained volunteers. The San Mateo County Animal Control and Licensing manages foster placements and supplies. Officials say the program helps clients focus on recovery while preserving the important bond between people and their pets. Volunteers are now being recruited.
