County Prepares for Super Bowl With Regional Partners
Ahead of Super Bowl weekend, the County of San Mateo is urging residents to stay informed and prepared by signing up for local emergency alerts. With increased travel and large crowds expected, the County is coordinating with San Francisco and Santa Clara counties to support regional public safety efforts. Volunteers Support 2026 One Day Homeless Count
Nearly 350 volunteers joined San Mateo County’s 2026 One Day Homeless Count on January 29, helping locate and record people without stable housing across the county. Organized by the County's Human Services Agency, the observational-only count provides a federally required snapshot of unsheltered homelessness to guide local and federal resources. Volunteers worked in pairs, using a mobile app to record observations. Results support planning, outreach, and housing initiatives, with a summary expected this summer.

County Health Shares Super Bowl Health Tips
San Mateo County Health is reminding residents and visitors especially this Super Bowl weekend to take simple steps to stay healthy. Increased travel and large gatherings can lead to higher transmission of respiratory illnesses. Foodborne illnesses also often rise after major events. Residents are encouraged to practice good hand hygiene and follow food safety guidelines, including keeping perishable foods out for no more than two hours. County Health is coordinating with local partners to monitor illness trends.

Controller Publishes Property Tax Highlights for FY 2024-25
In Fiscal Year 2024‑25, San Mateo County collected $4.1 billion in property taxes, up 6 percent from the prior year. These funds support local cities, school districts, special districts, and the County, with $3.3 billion from the 1 percent General Tax. Special charges totaled $438 million, and debt service accounted for $399 million. County Controller Juan Raigoza emphasized transparency for taxpayers and highlighted ongoing challenges with delayed state payments of Vehicle License Fee Adjustment funds.

Flood Park’s New Playground Expected to Open this Spring
Construction is underway on the new inclusive playground at Flood Park in Menlo Park near North Fair Oaks, with a climbing tower now visible and features including zip lines, swings, spinners, benches, and slides in progress. Designed with community input, the inclusive play area will include space for children ages 2–5. Expected to open in spring 2026, the project is the second phase of a multi-year renovation of the 90-year-old park by the San Mateo County Parks Department.
