Board to Select Finalists for San Mateo County Sheriff
Photos, bios, videos, and application materials for all qualified candidates for San Mateo County Sheriff are now available here. The Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting today at 1 p.m. to interview all qualified candidates and select finalists to fill the vacancy in the Office of Sheriff. The public is encouraged to take part in the process by submitting questions for the Sheriff Candidate Forum by Nov. 7 here. The public forum will be held on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and will feature a moderated Q&A with the finalists, using questions submitted by community members.

County Calls on Volunteers for Food Recovery Efforts
With CalFresh benefits delayed due to the federal government shutdown, the County of San Mateo is urging residents and businesses to volunteer with the San Mateo County Edible Food Recovery Program, which supports organizations that recover and distribute meals to residents in need. “If you’re looking for a way to help your community and neighbors, you can donate extra food if you're a business, or volunteer to help distribute surplus food if you're a resident,” said Jasneet W. Sharma, director of the Sustainability Department.

Free Flu Clinics Open for Uninsured Residents
Through local community partners, San Mateo County Health is offering free flu vaccines to residents who do not have health insurance. The seasonal flu vaccine helps prevent serious illness, especially for older adults, young children and those with chronic health conditions. No appointment, insurance or ID is required. Clinics are open across San Mateo County from East Palo Alto to Pacifica through the fall. Find clinic dates and locations here. Insured individuals can get the vaccine from their health care provider or pharmacy.

Board Honors Veterans, Operation Green Light
At its Nov. 4 meeting, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation designating November 11, 2025, as Veterans Day and recognizing service through Operation Green Light. From Nov. 4–11, County buildings will shine green to honor the 27,000 veterans who call San Mateo County home and to raise awareness of resources available to them and their families. The County's Veterans Commission will host the 10th Annual Veterans Luncheon on Nov. 13, honoring veterans, their families and community leaders. County offices will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

County Probation Runs Operation Casper for Safety
San Mateo County Probation Department on Halloween conducted Operation Casper to ensure registered sex offenders avoided minors and Halloween activities. The operation involved two teams—four deputy probation officers and three probation service managers—making successful contact with 19 homes and 18 offenders. Eight searches were conducted, with all contacts found in compliance. The Probation Department is committed to enhancing public safety, assisting victims of crime, and facilitating positive changes in offenders’ behaviors that reduce recidivism.
