Supervisors to Consider Initiating Procedures to Remove Sheriff Christina Corpus from Office
Redwood City – The County of San Mateo Board of Supervisors will consider initiating the process to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus from office during a special Board meeting, at 1 PM on June 5, 2025. To initiate the removal process under the San Mateo County Charter, the Board must approve the issuance of a Notice of Intent to Remove by a four-fifths vote.
Copies of the Proposed Notice of Intent to Remove were transmitted to each member of the Board of Supervisors and to Sheriff Corpus on Monday, June 2, 2025. The County has informed the Sheriff of its intent to make the Notice of Intent to Remove publicly available before the special meeting. However, if the Sheriff objects to releasing the Notice of Intent to the public, it will not be shared publicly at that time.
Thursday’s vote begins the implementation of voter-approved Measure A, which amended the County Charter through December 31, 2028 to allow for the removal of a sheriff by the Board if it finds on a four-fifths vote that there is cause to do so. The Charter Amendment was approved overwhelmingly, with approximately 84% of the votes cast in favor by the electorate.
