County Unveils $4.9 Billion Budget; Uncertainties Loom
The 2025-26 Recommended Budget was released May 23, 2025, by County Executive Mike Callagy. The $4.9 billion budget reflects the County’s commitment to protect services relied upon by San Mateo County’s 740,000 residents. The state’s projected $14 billion deficit and uncertainty surrounding federal funding, however, leaves local officials bracing for challenging times ahead. Callagy anticipates some changes to programs that serve thousands of the County’s most vulnerable residents. Public hearings on the Recommended Budget begin June 23 and run for three days before the Board of Supervisors.
