The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors met in-person with remote public participation available via Zoom on April 8, 2025. Below are the results of selected items on the agenda:
PRESENTATIONS AND AWARDS
- Recommendation to:
- A) Adopt a resolution appointing Antonio De Jesús López to the honorary post of San Mateo County Poet Laureate for a two-year term from April 8, 2025 through March 31, 2027; and
- B) Approve a proclamation designating April 2025 as National Poetry Month.
GOVERNING BOARD
- Acting as the Governing Board of County Service Area No. 11, conduct a public hearing:
- A) Open public hearing
- B) Close public hearing
- C) Adopt a resolution authorizing the imposition of water rates and charges for County Service Area No. 11 for Fiscal Years 2025-26 through 2029-30.
The Board of Supervisors voted 2-2-1 to continue the item (Supervisors Corzo and Mueller casted a nay vote; Supervisor Speier was absent). Motion by Supervisor Corzo to approve the item failed due to the lack of a second. See Matters Set for Specified Time, Item No. 5, for more information.
COUNTY ATTORNEY
- Consider and provide direction on draft procedures for conducting a removal proceeding pursuant to Section 412.5 of the San Mateo County Charter.
The Board of Supervisors listened to public comment and a presentation on the draft procedures. No action was taken. See Regular Agenda, Item No. 7, for more information.
PARKS
- Adopt a resolution authorizing:
- A) The San Mateo Resource Conservation District (“RCD”), in partnership with the Parks Department, to implement planned forest management projects in Pescadero Creek County Park using CAL FIRE Forest Health Grant Program funds awarded to the RCD, pursuant to the Parks Department’s Climate and Habitat Resiliency Plan; and
- B) The Parks Director, or the Parks Director’s Designee, to enter into an agreement with the RCD, in a form approved by the County Attorney, to offset the costs of the planned forest management projects at Pescadero Creek County Park by permitting the RCD and its contractor to remove and sell raw felled timber generated through the projects under the oversight of the Parks Department.
The Board of Supervisors voted 3-0-2 (Supervisors Speier and Mueller were absent) to adopt the resolution. See Regular Agenda, Item No. 9, for more information.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
- Adopt a resolution in support of Senate Bill 326 (Becker and Laird)-the California Wildfire Mitigation Strategic Planning Act.
The Board of Supervisors voted 3-0-2 (Supervisors Speier and Mueller were absent) to adopt the resolution. See Regular Agenda, Item No. 10, for more information.
ASSESSOR-COUNTY CLERK-RECORDER-ELECTIONS
- Adopt a resolution:
- A) Accepting the certificate of the Chief Elections Officer as the statement of the results of the vote as determined by the official canvass of the March 4, 2025 Special Election; and
- B) Declaring the results of a Countywide ballot measure.
COUNTY EXECUTIVE
- A) Declaring the Board of Supervisors’ intent to purchase the real property and improvements described as 830 Stone Pine Road (“Property”), a 6.87-acre portion of Assessor’s Parcel Number 056-260-180, located at 880 Stone Pine Road (“the Site”), Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County, for a total purchase price of $1,234,000; and
- B) Authorizing the President of the Board of Supervisors to execute a Real Estate Purchase and Sale Agreement and Escrow Instructions (“Agreement”) with the City of Half Moon Bay (“City”), for the County’s acquisition of the Property; and
- C) Authorizing the County Executive or their designee to execute a Maintenance and Operation Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the City, affirming City maintenance commitments and the payment by the County for such work; and
- D) Authorizing the County Executive, or their designee, to execute a Certificate of Acceptance upon satisfaction of certain conditions in escrow, to be recorded with the Grant Deed transferring title to the Property to County, as well as any and all notices, escrow instructions, and documents required to facilitate the purposes of the Agreement; and
- E) Authorizing and directing the County Executive, or their designee, to execute, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, all amendments, extensions, notices, options, consents, approvals, terminations, and documents associated with the MOU, and the taking of all necessary actions in connection therewith.
