Board Reaffirms Commitment to Vulnerable Residents
San Mateo County Board of Supervisors at the Jan. 28, 2025, meeting reaffirmed its commitment to diverse and historically marginalized groups, assuring the public that values and local protections have not changed in the face of new federal priorities. The Board reaffirmed several past steps it has taken to ensure populations such as immigrants, indigenous people, LGBTQIA+ and those with disabilities feel welcome and secure. “Here in San Mateo County, we can make a choice not to backslide decades in our social progress," said District Two Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who co-sponsored the resolution with District Three Supervisor Ray Mueller.

FAA Changes Contract for SQL Air Traffic Services
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded a new contract for air traffic services at San Carlos Airport (SQL) to Robinson Aviation (RVA). While this transition introduces operational changes, the County of San Mateo and its Airports division want to reassure the public that safety remains the highest priority and there will likely be no lapse in air traffic control services. Negotiations are actively underway to resolve this matter and ensure San Carlos Airport continues to be staffed with highly qualified air traffic professionals.

Board Highlights Human Trafficking Prevention Month
San Mateo County Board of Supervisors proclaimed January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month. “We all need to be aware of the red flags for someone who is being trafficked, including isolation restricted communication or signs of physical abuse,” said Supervisor Lisa Gauthier, who co-sponsored the proclamation with Supervisor Noelia Corzo. The proclamation commits the County “to reduce the conditions that enable exploitation, foster resilience and create environments where individuals are safeguarded against human trafficking and other forms of violence.”

The 2025 Community Information Handbook—your guide to non-profit agencies, government programs and community organizations throughout San Mateo County—is now available online and in hard copy in both English and Spanish. Find copies at local libraries, schools, government offices, health providers, and more. Or, order online here. In 2024, the Human Services Agency distributed more than 35,000 handbooks, which has become a popular reference for residents and providers alike seeking resources, programs and services in the county.
