County Health Advises Caution for Bird Flu, Raw Milk
California has declared a state of emergency to streamline the state’s response to H5N1, also known as bird flu, which continues to spread among poultry and dairy farms. While the risk of exposure to most people is low, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) advises against consuming raw (unpasteurized) milk. According to the CDPH, anyone can get sick from germs in raw milk, but people with weakened immune systems, children, older adults, and people who are pregnant are more likely to get very sick. County Health continues to work with the County's Department of Agriculture to make sure the local agricultural industry has guidance.
