King Tides, High Surf Brings More Hazardous Conditions
With a return of the King Tides through Jan. 13, 2024, minor flooding of bayside locations may occur. High surf, dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding are also expected but according to the National Weather Service (NWS), impacts will not be as severe as Dec. 28-30, 2023, when large breaking waves along the coast reached 30 to 60 feet, as pictured here in Miramar. Residents are reminded to stay off beaches, rocks and jetties when there's a high surf warning from the NWS. The County's Department of Emergency Management also provides flooding resources, sandbag locations and weather preparedness and safety tips. [Photo courtesy of Michael Powers, Coastside Buzz].
