Parks Crews Complete Forest Health Work at Wunderlich
Forest health work at Wunderlich Park is finished for the season. Crews worked to selectively thin overdense stands of trees and shrubs along the southern border of the park. Staff fire prevention and safety precautions included taking weather readings a minimum of three times daily, maintaining on-site fire suppression apparatus, and monitoring equipment and the treatment area for smoke. Staff also flagged and monitored to protect sensitive resources. Despite working with a smaller crew and less equipment due to COVID limitations and resources being diverted to fight fires throughout the state, crews succeeded in treating 58 acres of vegetation. Skyline and Alambique trails are now open.
