County Airports Launch New Noise Information Website With Video Featuring Aerial Views

Pilots flying in and out of San Carlos and Half Moon Bay airports and the public can see a bird's-eye view of the existing routes designed to reduce aircraft noise in a series of high definition aerial videos posted on the new Airport Noise Information website launched on July 25, 2019. The narrated videos help pilots new to the County’s two airport understand how to navigate the airspace. Non-pilots will also appreciate the beautiful aerial footage, narrated to point out local landmarks and explain how to “flying friendly” by following the voluntary noise abatement routes can help curb noise for those below. LEARN MORE

Office of Community Affairs Warns Public About Recent Census Phone Scam

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been reports of a census phone scam occurring in San Mateo County. To protect yourself, the County's Office of Community Affairs is recommending members of the public to beware of the phishing scam and to protect their information. The U.S. Census Bureau will never ask for your social security number, mother's maiden name, money or donations, your bank or credit card numbers, or anything on behalf of a political party. San Mateo County Probation Department Recognizes Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week

The County's Probation Department is celebrating Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervisor Week July 21-27, a time to raise awareness about community corrections professionals, working to keep communities safe, reduce recidivism and change lives. The Board of Supervisors presented Chief Probation Officer John Keene a proclamation at its July 9, 2019, meeting to recognize the San Mateo County Probation Department and the work they do to reduce crime, assist victims of crime through offender accountability and rehabilitation, and facilitate a positive change in offenders' behaviors that foster a law-abiding lifestyle. LEARN MORE

Office of Sustainability's Grocery Pilot Program Matches Surplus Food With Hungry Residents

In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, the Office of Sustainability’s new Grocery Rescue pilot has the potential to divert some of the estimated 33 million pounds of excess edible food in San Mateo County each year.  Grocery Rescue recovers food from supermarkets, wholesalers, commissaries, and caterers and delivers groceries to feed hungry residents. It's also an innovative approach to meeting State requirements that aim to reduce methane generated by food in landfills and will help San Mateo County meet ambitious state climate change goals. LEARN MORE
