San Mateo County Controller Releases County's Fiscal Year 2017-18 Financial Reports

San Mateo County Controller Juan Raigoza released for public review the County’s Fiscal Year 2017-18 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) which includes the County’s audited financial statements, management’s analysis, statistics, and other financial information. The Controller’s Office also released the County’s Financial Highlights report, otherwise known as the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), which summarizes the details of the County’s financial picture documented in the much longer CAFR. In addition to presenting the County’s assets and liabilities, both of these documents show how taxpayer monies and other funds are received and spent. LEARN MORE

Children's Fund Kicks Off Annual Holiday Gift Drive

The Children's Fund of San Mateo County Holiday Program is in full swing and needs help to fulfill more than 3,000 holiday gifts for low income and foster youth ages newborn to 18 years old living in San Mateo County. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible and items can be shipped directly to the warehouse at 1 Davis Drive in Belmont. Donations can be made through the Fund's Amazon wish listThe Children's Fund benefits low-income and foster children and teens newborn to age 18  who reside in San Mateo County. The County's Human Services Agency pays all administrative and operational costs associated with the Fund. LEARN MORE

Jobs for Youth Program Accepts Applications for 2019 Scholarships

The San Mateo County Jobs for Youth (SMCJFY) program, a year-round program under the umbrella of the County's Human Resources Department, is currently accepting applications for 2019 scholarships. Scholars receive $1,500 for vocational or higher education goals. Applicants must be San Mateo County residents ages 16-21 years old and have participated in a Jobs for Youth workshop; at least a current junior in high school; and a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Each year, San Mateo County Jobs for Youth serve approximately 3,000 youth with employment services. LEARN MORE

Volunteers Needed for Biennial One-Day Homeless Count

In collaboration with community partners, the County's Human Services Agency organizes the biennial One-Day Homeless Count of people on the Peninsula who are experiencing homelessness. Volunteers are needed on Jan. 31, 2019, 5 to 10 a.m. to collect data on the number, characteristics and service needs of those experiencing homelessness in our community — a critical component for local planning and program development to help this population. SIGN UP HERE

Office of Community Affairs Presents Census Strategic Plan, Recruits Residents to Assist With Count

At the Dec. 4, 2018, Board of Supervisors meeting, the Office of Community Affairs (OCA) presented the County's strategic plan affirming support of and partnership with the United States Census Bureau to ensure a complete and accurate count for Census 2020. The data collected by the decennial census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. The OCA with the Census Bureau is recruiting people across the country including in San Mateo County to assist with count. LEARN MORE
