Altars

OPENING RECEPTION FOR DAY OF THE DEAD ALTARS

November 1, 6-8pm

Day of the Dead Altars by artists Renata Breth & Liz Camino Byers. The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos, Día de los Difuntos or Día de Muertos in Spanish) is a traditional holiday in Mexico and many South American countries. Based on ancient Aztec mingled with Catholic beliefs, this celebration of the memory of deceased ancestors is celebrated beginning at dusk on October 31st through November 2. SCM will continue its tradition of presenting altars by local artists and members of the community.  www.sonomacountymuseum.org

Calaveras

CALAVERAS DEL MONTON

November 1, 8pm

A traditional Day of the Dead performance in Spanish and English/ una presentación tradicional del Día de Muertos en Ingles y Español. Únete al los Imaginistas en una noche tradicional de Calaveras. Las Calaveras son contadas por los muertos a los vivos. Aveces satíricas o espantosas estas viñetas dichas en verso, canciones  o como un poema iluminaran nuestra presencia. Este año le damos la bienvenida  a la mujer de la limpieza, a la Imaginación, y a el Océano mismo, entre otros. con una presentación especial de Santo Monsanto. Join the Imaginists for an evening of traditional Calaveras. Calaveras are imaginary "obituaries" told by the dead to the living. Sometimes satirical, sometimes haunting or whimsical these vignettes told in verse, song, or as a soliloquy illuminate our present. This year we welcome the Cleaning Woman, Imagination, and the Ocean herself, among others. With a special appearance by Santo MalSanto. (Después del espectáculo a nosotros mientras caminamos en procesión a la plaza del palacio de justicia, donde vamos a participar en el Día Anual de Santa Rosa de las festividades muertas!) November 2, Noon-3pm

Day of the Dead Family Day Celebration at the Sonoma County Museum. Dance performance by Danza Azteca Xantotl and special themed activities, crafts and festivities for the whole family. $7/ $5 Museum members. Children 12 and under are free.  www.sonomacountymuseum.org
