First DINE Event Gets Rave Reviews
SANTA ROSA • Ten tables seating 101 residents across the City of Santa Rosa played host to shared meals on April 13, 2012. Participants enjoyed good company and conversation as they engaged in a facilitated discussion about community building. Each group explored questions such as "What brought you to Santa Rosa and what has kept you here?" This allowed people to share personal experiences and connect over shared perspectives. It provided a unique opportunity for residents to meet new neighbors and learn what others are passionate about. Participants also gave feedback to help prioritize future DINE topics and Community Engagement events. If you would like to vote for your pick of the top four discussion topics for the next event on September 14, visit the poll on our Facebook page. To sign up for the next DINE event, read discussion trends from our first event, and see feedback statistics, check out the DINE webpage. Hosts, facilitators, and participants are needed!

Join the Neighbors Summit Team for their third annual event on July 29 from 12:00-4:00 pm. This year's event is all new with an emphasis on celebrating our neighborhood's strengths and sharing ideas about how to join together. If you have ever wanted to start a Neighborhood Watch group, organize for emergency preparedness, create a community garden, start a neighborhood association, plan a group garage sale, or simply get to know your neighbors better, this is the event for you! Learn from other neighborhoods how they have been successful in organizing and browse the resource fair to learn about helpful community resources. Enjoy the Kid's Corner, win prizes, join the bike parade, meet new people, and celebrate our community. Neighborhood groups are invited to set up a booth and show off the great work you are doing to connect residents. Neighborhood associations can also sell baked goods to raise money for community events!! For more information, visit the Neighbors Summit Facebook page.
Do you have an idea about how to improve your community and need some funding to do it? The City of Santa Rosa has launched its 2012-2013 Community Improvment Grants! Recipients can receive up to $1,000 for projects that improve the community. Examples of eligible projects include (but are not limited to): murals, community gardens, park repairs, graffiti removal, community clean-ups, and creek stewardship projects. To learn more and download an application, visit the Community Improvement Grants webpage.
Volunteers from Santa Rosa Utopia, Target, Redwood Credit Union, Starbuck's, the Hughes/Burbank Avenue Neighborhood Association, and the community came together to clean up Youth Park and Roseland Creek on Earth Day (April 22). They picked up trash, spread mulch, raked through sand, cut down vegetation, and generally did a fantastic job beautifying Santa Rosa! In just three hours, they were able to assist Parks Maintenance staff with projects that would have taken days to complete. Our parks need your help so please get involved!
The Prince Memorial Greenway needs you! Our beautiful downtown jewel is suffering from vandalism, trash, and graffiti and it is going to take a community response to fix it. The Parks Department and Community Engagement Program are forming a partnership with local government stakeholders, non-profits, neighbors, and businesses to create an ongoing maintenance strategy for the Greenway. The goal is for it to be a safe and gorgeous nature path for walkers, bikers, runner, and vistors alike. If you or your organization would like to join the Greenway Cleanway Team and help with clean-up efforts, please contact Georgia Pedgrift at gpedgrift@srcity.org. The Greenway belongs to all of us so let's work together to keep it looking great. You may even meet new friends in the process!
