UPDATE – WHAT’S HAPPENING INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE ADVISORY AREA?

The water quality advisory remains in effect for an isolated portion of Fountaingrove. Click here to view map. Outside the water quality advisory area, water quality continues to meet all drinking water requirements.

INSIDE THE ADVISORY AREA

Santa Rosa Water is taking a phased approach to safely restoring water service in the advisory area. Based on recent sampling data, we are replacing contaminated water services to determine if this will resolve the water quality issue. If service line replacement does not resolve the issue, the City will use the data to determine if targeted repair or full replacement of the water system is necessary. By taking this phased approach, we may be able to restore water service sooner and reduce disruption of rebuilding and construction activities.

Existing Homes

To ensure that water being provided to existing homes meets all regulatory requirements, the City is offering to install a temporary on-site activated carbon filtration system at each of these homes as needed and as necessary.

We are working with regulators on system specifications and estimate these systems will be ready to install in the next couple of months.

Rebuilding

The City will replace City-owned water service lines to all properties in the advisory area. The City has notified property owners, via mail, of the water service line replacement project. Additional notifications to homeowners will be mailed prior to replacing these service lines and following resampling. The City anticipates that service line replacements will be complete by the end of August 2018. Homeowners will be required to replace the property service line from the water meter to the home at the owner’s expense.

If determined necessary for re-occupancy, the City will install a temporary on-site filtration system to provide water that meets all drinking water standards. These systems will be installed, owned, and maintained by Santa Rosa Water until the water system is restored.

The City has determined a solution to provide construction and irrigation water at properties located within the water quality advisory area. Customers interested in having their meter set for construction and/or irrigation water prior to service line replacement will need to sign an agreement acknowledging that the water is not potable and can only be used for construction and/or irrigation purposes. Property owners will also be required to install signage, provided by the City, and install a quick coupler instead of a hose bib. Customers with meters set for construction and/or irrigation water will only be billed for water charges, sewer charges will not be included. For questions, please contact Water Engineering Services, see contact information below.

OUTSIDE THE ADVISORY AREA

Existing Homes

The City has taken over 3,600 samples outside of the water quality advisory area, including sampling water services to every existing home in fire impacted areas. Ongoing monitoring shows that water being delivered to homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals continues to meet all drinking water requirements.

Rebuilding

The City has identified 150 contaminated City service lines to burned properties. The City has notified property owners, via mail, of the water service line replacement project. Additional notifications to homeowners will be mailed prior to replacing these service lines and following resampling to confirm the contamination has been removed. The City anticipates that service line replacements will be complete by the end of August 2018. Homeowners with contaminated service line will be required to replace the property service line from the water meter to the home at the owner’s expense.
