We all play a part in preventing stormwater pollution. Here are some ways to get involved in March and help protect our local waterways! All events are free unless otherwise indicated.

Ongoing beach and community cleanups help protect the County’s waterways from stormwater pollution and can help preserve water quality for years to come. March 7 and 8, 9am to 4pm – Pumps for Greywater and Rainwater Harvesting ($$ fees vary) – This 2-day unique course for both homeowners and contractors offers a deep dive into the design and installation of pumps for rainwater and greywater systems allowing you to apply what you learn to real-world rainwater and greywater projects. March 28, 11am to 12pm – How to Save Money and Compost Manure in Unincorporated San Diego County – Farmers, ranchers, and livestock owners are invited to learn about low-cost options to manage organic materials on their property and improve their existing operation. March 29, 10am to 11am – Rain Barrel & Water Harvesting Workshop for City of San Diego Residents – Learn about the benefits of rain barrels and best practices for rainwater collection at this workshop designed for City of San Diego residents. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Household Pickup Service ($10 fee for people under 65; free for people 65 and over) – A HHW pick-up service is being offered to residents in San Diego County. Accepted items include electronic waste, light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, batteries, fuel, smoke detectors, cleaning products, paint and more. 125 pounds or 15 gallons (whichever one comes first) can be picked up at one time. March 13, 11am to 1pm – Slow Down Swap Party at the ASCENDtial’s/City Heights Food Distribution – Attend this swap event to slow down our consumption and exchange some clothing and accessories. March 14, 10am to 11am – From Kitchen to Closet: DIY Your Way to a Low-Waste Lifestyle Workshop – Attend to learn accessible ways to live a more sustainable lifestyle! This workshop will cover zero waste practices to adopt throughout the house, in the kitchen, sustainable product swaps, and recommendations for where to purchase low waste versions of everyday products locally. Attendees will also have the opportunity to make and take home DIY zero waste cleaning and personal care products. Sponsored by the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department. Zero Waste San Diego Fixit Clinics – Learn how to reduce waste by fixing things instead of throwing items away at the following Fix-It Clinics in March. Bring broken or non-working items for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. Workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item will be provided. Clinics hosted by SD Fixit Clinic with the help of many other zero waste partners.
University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources – Ask a UC Master Food Preserver Live Q&A Webinar – March 11, 7pm to 8pm –– A panel of volunteers specializing in freezing, dehydrating, canning, and food safety will be available to answer your questions. They will also share their tips so you can safely and successfully preserve food at home. Learn more or register.

Registration Open Now – 2026 Summer Discovery Camps - June through August ($$ fees vary) – Discovery Camps feature hands-on, educational lessons, and activities around a central theme designated for that camp week. All camps take place outdoors in our Nature Nodes, and are filled with nature walks, animal interactions, and crafts. Camp groups are split by age ranges and capped at 12 campers per group with 1 teacher. Camp is for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Register early as camps fill up quickly. Wildlife Jewels – Paint the Jewels of La Jolla Painting Event – March 7, 3:30pm to 6pm - Kellogg Park –Attend this free, family-friendly community celebration in honor of World Wildlife Day. Participate in a special artist-led painting experience of coastal wildlife art, local wildlife stories, and a short, guided walk along the beach as we learn about the “Jewels” of La Jolla—harbor seals, sea lions, coastal birds, and tidepool life.
