Waterscape Rebate Program Enhancements Are Here!
About the Program
Since 2021, the County of San Diego's Waterscape Rebate Program has assisted property owners in beautifying their yards, conserving water, and saving money. Over 1.3 million square feet of turf has been replaced with sustainable landscaping, over 100,000 square feet of native plants have been established, and over 270,000 gallons of rain-saving storage capacity has been installed.
Now, the Waterscape Rebate Program offers more savings, more support, and more ways to participate. Whether you’re replacing turf, planting natives, or capturing rainwater, we’ve made it easier than ever to create a sustainable landscape. We are here to help you upgrade your outdoor space and better manage stormwater while saving money and water.

Rebates are higher than ever before:
Now, with the Waterscape Rebate Program, San Diego County property owners in the unincorporated area can receive:

- Up to $5 per sq. ft. for removing grass near pavement, not eligible under other programs.
- Free support for SoCal WaterSmart participants, plus a $1 per sq. ft. native plant bonus for turf replacement projects.

What do past participants have to say?
“Not only has has our water bill been significantly reduced, but it also feels really good to have a positive impact on the environment.”
“Not only has the assistance provided by staff throughout the application process been excellent, the funds available are very adequate and the results not only help our environment, but also beautify our properties.”
“We are happy in knowing that we are both saving and directing to our rain saving garden a large portion of the roof rainwater that in the past has just flowed down the street to storm drains. The plants will love the light sprinkling of stored rainwater and we will enjoy much-reduced water bills.”
This participant in Escondido replaced 5,000 square feet of their front yard to sustainable landscaping and took advantage of rebates and free technical assistance to complete their project.
