On Thursday, Sept. 12, excitement filled the air as community members gathered to celebrate the Calavo Groundbreaking event with the County of San Diego Department of Parks & Recreation staff. The event marked the official start of the park's development phase, and golden shovels were used for the groundbreaking.
The future skate park and basketball court generated the most interest among residents, who eagerly studied the park's map to learn about its features. The evening was filled with enthusiasm, and the community looks forward to discovering more about the park in the near future. Stay tuned for more to come at sdparks.org.

For the second year, we’re partnering with Nature Unplugged to support their October Hike-A-Thon. We’ve picked four trail destinations for our Saturday morning meetups with park rangers, and the County’s Office of Equitable Communities is finalizing an abundance of hands-on activities for guests who attend the Kick-Off event on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Los Penasquitos Ranch House.
The Hike-A-Thon is designed to encourage people to connect with, and fully experience, nature. Those who sign up for the Hike-A-Thon and log miles through an app Oct. 1 to 31 can earn prizes and will be supporting the scholarship and subsidy program set up by Nature Unplugged for organizations and communities in need. For more information, view the article on sdparks.org.

DID YOU KNOW? We manage four community centers and one multi-purpose sports park where we run specialized classes, camps and programs. Because these require registration and fees, they are promoted differently than other park activities.
Here are links to our July through September editions:
