 Addressing the Opioid Crisis: Taking Action for Safer Communities
In response to the concerning increase in fentanyl abuse and the rising risk of accidental overdoses or deaths, healthcare professionals can take action by:
- Expanding distribution and use of naloxone and overdose prevention education
- Expanding awareness, access, and availability of treatment for substance use disorders
- Intervening early with individuals at highest risk for overdose
- Improving detection of overdose outbreaks to facilitate more effective response

COVID-19 Activity Increasing in San Diego
While COVID-19 activity is still at low levels, there has been a rise in COVID-19 positive tests, emergency department visits, and wastewater detection. Encourage all patients, especially those in nursing homes, to get tested and treated if they are symptomatic or have been exposed.
