Please join us at the Mira Mesa Recreation Center for an open conversation on the design and future of the Mira Mesa Epicentre. The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, with its SD (Safe Destination) Nights team, will be hosting an all-ages art activity and discussing programs, events and opportunities for the multi-functional space. Food will be provided, while supplies last. This is a free event and all are welcome.
Note: The location for this community event will be at the Mira Mesa Recreation Center, not the Epicentre, located at 8450 Mira Mesa Blvd.
The County of San Diego Board of Supervisors adopted a new $8.17 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24 after public deliberations on Tuesday, June 27. Built on community input though presentations, meetings, hearings and deliberation, the adopted budget reflects an overall increase of 11% over last year with addition funds to fight homelessness; take on mental health and substance use disorder challenges; improve the justice system; help working families; remove barriers to affordable housing; and maintain core services like roads, fire protection and parks.
Park projects saw a 6.7% increase in funds, and those projects include:
- $20.M for land acquisition, conservation and stewardship activities; planting 3,500 trees; and water quality improvements in the Tijuana River Valley
- $36.1M to support daily park operations, maintenance, programs and events for 150+ properties and 380+ miles of trails
- $15.6M for facility improvements, upgrades and ongoing fire and vegetation management
- $3M to expand youth employment opportunities and no-cost recreation experiences and to continue to improve accessibility, inclusivity and public outreach
We also are working on a number of capital projects valued at $28M that are in different phases of design, engineering and construction. Some of this year’s priorities are Alpine Local Park, Hidden Meadows Park, Otay Valley Regional Park, Santa Maria Creek Greenway and Casa de Oro Library park amenities.
