Join us as we pay tribute to two centuries of farming, ranching, learning and living local! On Saturday, Feb. 11, we will be celebrating the bicentennial of Los Penasquitos Ranch House. Guests of all ages will enjoy tours, historic presentations and displays, cattle ranch activities, crafts, tractor rides, adobe brick making, food stands, live music and more!
Los Peñasquitos Ranch House was the first Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County. Presidio comandante Francisco María Ruiz fulfilled the conditions of the grant by building a small adobe structure in 1823. Archaeologists have found remains of that structure within one wing of the existing house. The property has changed shape over the decades – from two small adobe buildings, a ramada and cattle run – to the sprawling estate you see today with a central wing, courtyard, Spring House, grove and garden. Inside the rancho are historic artifacts that tell the tales of our region’s earliest inhabitants. Together with our partners, we will be highlighting these moments in time through a series of educational workshops and hands-on activities.
The property is a great spot for picnics, hikes and bike rides, too, so come for the party and stay for the day! There is no cost to attend. Translation services are available upon request. For more information, call the park at 858-484-7504.
