WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN UPDATE CALL FOR DATA DUE BY MAY 14, 2021

San Luis Rey_Guajome County Park_075

The stakeholders in the San Luis Rey Watershed are embarking on a process to update the Water Quality Improvement Plan (WQIP) for the watershed.  The process will include a re-evaluation of priority water quality conditions for the watershed and possible updates to strategies to address the priorities and metrics to demonstrate improvements over time.

One of the first steps in the process is collecting and analyzing existing data to provide the foundation for the updated water quality assessments and prioritization process.  The stakeholders have collected water quality data under their stormwater permits for the past two decades.  Their dataset may be supplemented by additional data received from this public data request.

Please provide available, relevant, and appropriately collected and analyzed physical, chemical, and biological monitoring data, including but not limited to:

  • Chemical Constituents,
  • Water Quality Parameters (i.e., pH, temperature, conductivity, etc.),
  • Toxicity Identification Evaluations for both receiving water column and sediment,
  • Trash Impacts,
  • Bioassessments, and
  • Physical Habitat.

To ensure that the information can be integrated into the process, at a minimum, please provide the following information with the data:

  • Location of the event (latitude/longitude coordinates),
  • Date/time of sample collection or observations,
  • Conditions under which the event occurred (i.e., dry weather or storm event),
  • Flow information, if available, and
  • Whether the data was collected as part of a monitoring program with formal collection and analysis protocols (provide Quality Assurance Project Plan if applicable).

Qualitative information and recommendations may also be helpful in our evaluation of conditions in the watershed and may be submitted.  Examples of qualitative information include:

  • Evidence of adverse impacts to biological integrity of receiving waters,
  • Evidence of erosional impacts due to accelerated flows, and
  • Evidence of un-impacted stream reaches.

Data should be submitted in electronic format, preferably in MS Access or Excel.  Where appropriate, written reports, data summaries, or conclusions may be submitted with the data.  Please be sure to include your contact information with the data (name, email, phone) in case we have any questions.

To ensure that your data is considered in the process, please submit all data no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 14, 2021 to Ruth.Delarosa@sdcounty.ca.gov.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Ruth de la Rosa at (858) 334-3805 or Ruth.Delarosa@sdcounty.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

The San Luis Rey River Watershed Management Area Participating Agencies
