Virtual Stormwater Pollution Prevention Events

We all play a part in preventing stormwater pollution. Here are some ways to get involved in August and help protect our local waterways! All events are free unless otherwise indicated.


 

Cleanup Events

August 8, 2020, 9am to 11am – Watershed Warriors Fallbrook VIRTUAL Community Cleanup

 I Love a Clean San Diego is hosting a VIRTUAL litter cleanup in Fallbrook! Participants will collect trash from around the Fallbrook community to divert litter from the San Luis Rey and Santa Margarita watersheds! Participate in this cleanup to protect the environment as well as each other, and “walk-your-block” with your family and neighbors. Join ILACSD on Zoom for the 9am kick-off, and then beautify your neighborhood! Learn more or register.


August 15, 2020, 8am to 11am – Clean Canyons for a Clean Coast VIRTUAL Cleanup – City Heights  

City Heights residents can participate the Clean Canyons for a Clean Coast virtual cleanup event to help protect and preserve the natural state of canyons in City Heights. Learn more or register.

August 5, 10am to 11am – Landscapes: Irrigation 101 & Soils Online Discussion and Q&A

The County of San Diego in partnership with the Water Conservation Garden is sponsoring an online Landscapes: Irrigation 101 & Soils discussion to explore how proper irrigation can contribute to successful landscapes and healthy soil. Learn more or register.


August 11, 3pm to 4pm – Pesticide Safety Webinar on Zoom (webinar fee $20)

The UC IPM (University of California Integrated Pest Management) program is offering a monthly webinar series on pesticide safety. The August 11th webinar will cover the Top 10 Pesticide Violations. Learn more about the webinar series or register.


August 12, 5:30pm to 8:30pm  Plan Ahead: Understanding Soil and Site Assessments Online Workshop

This free three-hour WaterSmart workshop provided by San Diego County Water Authority will introduce you to the steps needed to turn water-thirsty turf into a beautiful and sustainable landscape. You will learn how to rethink, redesign and renovate your landscape and the important role of healthy soil in a successful landscape. Learn more or register.


City of Chula Vista Summer Sustainability Series Webinars

As part of its Summer Sustainability Series, the City of Chula Vista is offering the following educational webinars in August:

  • August 6, 4pm to 5pm – Reduce Waste, Reduce Your Carbon Footprint Webinar – Learn more or register.

I Love a Clean San Diego in partnership with various cities will be hosting the following waste reduction webinars and events during the month of August:

  • August 1, 10am to 11am Sustainable Materials Management 101 Webinar – City of Carlsbad – Learn about living sustainably and how the City of Carlsbad is working to address waste in the region.  Learn more or register.
  • August 15, 9am to 1pm – VIRTUAL Zero Waste Fair – City of Encinitas - This year, the City of Encinitas' fifth annual Zero Waste Fair is going virtual to bring you a variety of informative and fun presentations, demonstrations, and Q&A sessions that highlight low-waste living, composting, recycling, environmental justice, and more.   • August 29, 10am to 11am – Save Your Scraps Webinar – City of Poway – Learn about food waste and organics recycling!
