July 2016 Newsletter | In Focus: Crime & Abuse Prevention

Sheriff

By Ron Lane, General Manager, Public Safety Group, County of San Diego

San Diego is a very desirable place to live.

We have great weather, beautiful parks and beaches, growing economic opportunities and crime remains near historic lows.  To keep these crime rates low, criminal justice and social service agencies must continue to work collaboratively with partner organizations and the community to proactively identify and address potentially harmful situations.

The Living Safely component of the Live Well San Diego vision calls for ensuring residents are protected from crime and abuse, neighborhoods are safe, and communities are resilient to disasters and emergencies.  The County also recognizes its role in protecting vulnerable populations from abuse and neglect, including children, older adults and victims of domestic violence.

While political leadership and local public agencies play a crucial role in protecting communities, we also need engagement and collaboration at all levels and across jurisdictional boundaries. The vision of Living Safely can only be accomplished through partnerships and teamwork.

July’s Live Well San Diego newsletter edition highlights programs, resources and activities that prevent crime and abuse in San Diego’s communities.
