Board Actions, April 21
 The Board of Supervisors took several actions during its regular board meeting on Tuesday, April 21.
The Board of Supervisors approved a range of actions supporting community investment, including funding for local programs, expanded behavioral health and public health services, youth workforce opportunities, and infrastructure improvements. Additional actions strengthen election security, advance renewable energy collaboration, and guide the use of federal funding for housing, infrastructure and homeless services. Together, these efforts support countywide goals to enhance public health, economic opportunity and community well-being.
San Bernardino County Public Defender delivers Mobile Defense services in Lucerne Valley

On April 8, the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s office brought its Mobile Defense Program to The River’s Edge Ranch in Lucerne Valley, delivering free legal assistance and access to essential county services for High Desert residents.
Community members met with Public Defender staff, resolved court matters through virtual court access, and received assistance with record clearing and outstanding fines. Participants were able to take meaningful steps toward resolving legal issues while also connecting with additional county services.
Targeted Crime Suppression-Operation Consequences; 76 arrests, 76 firearms recovered
 Weapons seized during Operation Consequences are displayed following a coordinated, multi-agency enforcement effort across San Bernardino County from April 13-19.
Between April 13 and 19, investigators with the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division led targeted crime suppression efforts as part of Operation Consequences. They worked with San Bernardino County Probation, the California Highway Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations and the San Bernardino Police Department, along with personnel from the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division and multiple patrol stations. Additional support came from the Rialto, Ontario, Montclair, Colton and Barstow police departments, as well as the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Division of Adult Parole Operations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Also, the San Bernardino Movement Against Street Hoodlums (SMASH) Street Enforcement Team (SET) conducted proactive patrols in the High Desert and surrounding jurisdictions.
San Bernardino County Library honored “Best of the Best” in the Inland Empire
 County Librarian Melanie Orosco and Assistant County Librarian Kristin Stevens proudly display the “Best of the Best” award, recognizing their distinction as the inaugural recipient of Best Library in the Inland Empire.
The San Bernardino County Library is proud to announce it has been named the first-ever recipient of the “Best of the Best” library in the region by Inland Empire readers — marking a historic milestone under this newly established category.
This inaugural recognition highlights the library system’s exceptional service, innovation and lasting impact across the region. Selected directly by community members, the award underscores the trust and value that residents place in County Library as a vital resource for learning, connection and opportunity.
Preschool Services Week of the Young Child draws hundreds to the museum for early childhood education

San Bernardino County Preschool Services hosted its first annual Week of the Young Child Family Resource Fair on Saturday, April 11, in collaboration with the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands, bringing together families, community partners and staff for a day focused on early learning and family engagement.

April outreach efforts connect community members to essential support
 San Bernardino County Probation staff serve warm meals to community members during a local outreach event, helping provide nourishment and connection to supportive services.
The San Bernardino County Probation Department’s Homeless Outreach Unit has hosted multiple outreach efforts this month, bringing together community partners to provide supportive services and essential resources to individuals experiencing hardship.
Mojave Narrows Regional Park to hold ribbon-cutting ceremony for new equestrian center
 The addition of the barn and corrals will complement the existing equestrian trails and enhance the park’s features for visitors, campers and equestrian groups.
San Bernardino County Regional Parks is excited to announce the completion of the new equestrian facilities at Mojave Narrows Regional Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m. Free park admission will be offered for visitors from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to join the celebration and tour the new barn, corrals and arena area. Light refreshments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fresh finds and fresh reads: Highland Branch Library launches weekly farmers market in new partnership
 The Highland Branch Library invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of its farmers market, held in partnership with the CA Farmers Market Collective.
In a vibrant blend of fresh produce and fresh ideas, the San Bernardino County Library Highland Branch will debut its new weekly Farmers Market on Wednesday, April 29, from 2 to 7 p.m., made possible through a new partnership with California Farmers Market Collective (CFMC).
Set to take place every Wednesday evening, the market will feature a curated lineup of local farmers, artisans and food vendors coordinated by CFMC, bringing high-quality, locally sourced goods directly to the community. Participating vendors include Bon Jour Yogurt, Native Farms Hummus, Nicky’s Pizza, Grateful Dough Sourdough, Good Juju Coffee, and Great Day Farms, along with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and additional handcrafted and ready-to-enjoy offerings. The market is designed to support regional growers while creating a welcoming space for residents to gather.
Applications now being accepted for the San Bernardino County Civil Grand Jury
 Grand jurors are needed for the 2027 calendar year.
Applications for the San Bernardino County Civil Grand Jury are being accepted now through July 31. Successful applicants will serve as grand jurors from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2027.
The civil grand jury is charged by the California Penal Code Sections 888 through 939.91 to investigate all aspects of the county, including cities and special districts, and potentially hear information on certain criminal investigations. All communications and complaints to the grand jury are handled with the highest level of confidentiality, except for information deemed feasible in the final report.

Pioneertown, located near Yucca Valley, has long served as a backdrop for film and television productions. Established in 1946, Pioneertown was founded by a group of Hollywood investors, including actors Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. More than 200 films and television productions have been recorded in Pioneertown, including “The Cisco Kid,” “The Gene Autry Show” and more recently, an episode of the 2024 Netflix series “Selling Sunset.” Today, Pioneertown offers a variety of retail stores and dining options, including the legendary Pappy and Harriet’s, which has hosted world-renowned artists such as Paul McCartney, Lorde and Lizzo. The San Bernardino Mountains played an important role in the early development of the film industry.
By 1909, Los Angeles had emerged as a filmmaking hub, thanks to its sunny weather and ability to support year-round production. Filmmakers soon expanded into nearby areas, including the San Bernardino Mountains, which offered diverse scenery and were close to Hollywood.
