After the Storms: Reporting Damage, Clearing Roads, and Staying Prepared
Now that the winter storms have passed through San Bernardino County, crews are addressing storm-related impacts and continuing efforts to keep roads safe and accessible. Residents can help by reporting potholes, debris, drainage concerns, and other issues on county-maintained roads using SeeClickFix, the County’s free reporting tool. Available via web browser or mobile app, SeeClickFix allows users to submit photos, provide detailed descriptions, pinpoint locations, and track issues from report to resolution. Download links and reporting information are available at dpw.sbcounty.gov.
This winter also marked the beginning of a strengthened five-year partnership between the Land Use Services Code Enforcement Division and Public Works, focused on improving storm response, especially in mountain communities. During snow events, improperly parked vehicles can block snowplows, delay emergency response, and prevent access to entire neighborhoods. Through proactive outreach and enforcement before and during storms, the County is working to ensure roads remain clear, response times improve, and residents can travel safely during critical weather conditions.
Even as storm cleanup continues, preparedness remains essential. Residents are encouraged to download Ready SB County, the official emergency preparedness app for San Bernardino County. The free app provides real-time alerts, evacuation maps, safety check-ins, emergency contacts, and preparedness resources. Learn how to use the app before, during, and after future storms by visiting prepare.sbcounty.gov.

Third District Leaders Advocate for Wildfire Preparedness in Sacramento
Supervisor Dawn Rowe recently traveled to Sacramento with local fire service leaders Assistant Chief Josh Pullen and Battalion Chief Jared Newcomer to meet with members of the Inland Empire legislative delegation. Discussions with State Senator Kelly Seyarto and Assemblymembers Jeff Gonzalez and John Harabedian, and other elected officials focused on issues affecting San Bernardino County, particularly wildfire risk and emergency preparedness.
With mountain, desert, and foothill communities facing ongoing wildfire threats, the visit allowed state lawmakers to hear directly from local fire officials about current conditions, operational challenges, and resource needs. Bringing frontline perspectives into the legislative process remains a key priority for the Third District.
Strong collaboration between local and state partners is essential to improving coordination, strengthening preparedness, and protecting residents. Continued partnership ensures communities are better positioned to meet emerging challenges and stay safe.

Santa Ana River Trail Grows in San Bernardino and Redlands
Supervisor Rowe joined county leaders, community members, and regional partners to celebrate the completion of Phase III of the Santa Ana River Trail, marking a major milestone in one of the region’s most significant outdoor recreation projects. The new 3.8-mile extension stretches from Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino to California Street in Redlands, creating 11 miles of continuous trail through San Bernardino and Colton. The project represents the transition point between the Fifth and Third Supervisorial Districts and moves the county closer to the long-term goal of a fully connected trail from the San Bernardino Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
Cycling enthusiasts rode in to attend the ceremony alongside representatives from the County’s Regional Parks and Public Works departments, the California Coastal Conservancy, and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority. The new segment is a Class I bike path, fully separated from vehicle traffic, providing a safe and scenic space for residents and visitors to bike, walk, hike, and commute. County officials emphasized that the trail expands access to free outdoor recreation, supports local businesses along the corridor, and enhances overall quality of life for surrounding communities.
When complete, the 110-mile Santa Ana River Trail will extend from Mentone through Riverside and Orange counties to Huntington Beach. Phase III was supported by nearly $6.9 million in Proposition 84 funding from the California Coastal Conservancy, along with additional funding through the state’s Active Transportation Program. Planning is already underway for Phase IV-A, which will extend the trail east through to Orange Street in Redlands, with construction anticipated to begin in mid-2027.

Silver Valley High School Students Make History
Before the 2026 King of the Hammers becomes a distant memory, there’s one more milestone worth celebrating in the Third District. Silver Valley High School in Yermo made history as the first high school automotive team ever to compete at the world-renowned off-road race in Johnson Valley. Competing in the Class 11 night race on Jan. 31, the student-built team finished ninth out of 26 entries, an impressive accomplishment on a national motorsports stage.
To qualify, students in Silver Valley’s Automotive Career Technical Education (CTE) program spent more than a year building and preparing their own Volkswagen Beetle to meet Class 11 specifications. Along the way, they gained hands-on experience in fabrication, mechanical systems, diagnostics, motorsports operations, and even media and marketing, developing sponsor pitch decks and working directly with industry professionals. County Superintendent Ted Alejandre praised the effort as a powerful example of how CTE programs are preparing students with real-world skills and career-ready experience.
The historic run was made possible through strong industry partnerships, including title sponsor Sylvania Off-Road Lighting and build partner Slow Ride Garage, as well as support from three-time Class 11 Champion Blake Wilkey. Together, these partnerships helped place a student-built vehicle on one of the toughest race courses in the world, proving that talent, teamwork, and hands-on education can take Third District students all the way to the starting line at King of the Hammers.
