Patriot Day is a day of remembrance in our nation’s history—a time to reflect on the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, to honor the lives lost and to recognize the courage that emerged in the face of adversity. It is also a chance to draw strength from the unity and resilience that continue to guide us forward.
Board actions, Sept. 9
 The Board of Supervisors took several actions during its regular board meeting on Sept. 9.
The Board of Supervisors supported public safety, literacy and wellness initiatives using discretionary funding, approved Head Start contracts to promote early childhood education, accepted grant funding for early education, behavioral health, workforce development, and public safety initiatives, expanded career pathways through internship and training partnerships, and approved multi-year contracts for snow removal readiness.
Supervisors approve ordinance related to camping on public property and public rights of way
 The Board of Supervisors at their Aug. 19 meeting when they gave initial approval of the public camping ordinance.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors took an important step toward humanely eliminating homeless encampments by adopting an ordinance that seeks to protect individuals experiencing homelessness by transitioning them out of environments that are considered unsafe from both a public health and safety standpoint.
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center offers mobile health care services
 Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s Mobile Medical Clinic brings health care services directly to the community.
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) operates mobile medical clinics and mobile asthma clinics that provide a variety of services bringing health care and virtual consultations through telemedicine directly to community neighborhoods and remote areas of San Bernardino County.
County Code Enforcement strengthens community ties

The San Bernardino County Land Use Services - Code Enforcement Division recently participated in two major community events in Bloomington, reinforcing its commitment to building stronger connections with residents.
County partners with Count the Kicks to launch stillbirth prevention effort
 San Bernardino County partners with Count the Kicks and First 5 San Bernardino to promote stillbirth prevention through daily baby movement tracking.
The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health is partnering with Count the Kicks, an evidence-based stillbirth prevention program, to educate expectant parents about the importance of paying attention to their baby’s movements in the third trimester of pregnancy. Research shows nearly 3 in 10 stillbirths can be prevented when parents are educated on how to monitor their baby’s movements daily starting at 28 weeks.
County Animal Care adopters receive 30 days of pet insurance through MetLife
 Through a partnership with ARFF and MetLife Pet Insurance, County Animal Care adopters can enjoy 30 days of free coverage.
The Animals aRe First Fund (ARFF) has partnered with San Bernardino County Animal Care and MetLife Pet Insurance to give new pet parents added peace of mind. To help ease the transition to pet parenthood, MetLife Pet Insurance offers 30 days of coverage at no cost.
Inspire our future leaders during High School Voter Education Weeks
 High schools throughout the county are encouraged to participate in High School Voter Education Weeks.
As we approach High School Voter Education Weeks from Sept. 15–26, 2025, the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters invites high schools across the county to get involved. This two-week initiative empowers students to partner with their school administration to host voter registration drives and highlight the importance of civic participation. Beyond registering or pre-registering to vote, it’s a chance to celebrate and inspire the next generation of voters.

San Bernardino County Library earns three prestigious NACo Achievement Awards
 The San Bernardino County Library Animaker Space, in partnership with Garner Holt Education Through Imagination, is located at the Fontana Lewis Library and Technology Center.
The San Bernardino County Library has been honored with three 2025 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo), recognizing its innovative programs that strengthen the county’s diverse communities, inspire learning and empower residents of all ages.

The Cucamonga Valley Water District was founded back in 1955, during a historic drought, when more than a dozen private water companies united to protect and stabilize local groundwater. Now serving over 200,000 residents, the Cucamonga Valley Water District is keeping Rancho Cucamonga and surrounding cities safe, hydrated and future ready.

Pioneertown, established in 1946, is known as a prime filming location and tourist destination, offering an 1880s-themed experience with its Old West style buildings. More than 50 films and television productions were shot in Pioneertown between the 1940s and 1950s. Some of those productions include television shows produced by American actor Gene Autry as well as “The Cisco Kid” and “The Adventures of Judge Roy Bean.” Today, Pioneertown offers a variety of retail stores, dining options, campsites and more.

San Bernardino County history: Zzyzx, CA
 Zzyzx is near Baker, CA.
Zzyzx, CA was originally known as Soda Springs, a natural spring located in the Mojave Desert about seven miles south of Baker, CA. During the 1700s, Spanish explorers used the site as an outpost, and in the 1850s, it had become a campsite for railroad crews.
