As I reflect on the last year as the President of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), it’s clear that 12 months of dedication and teamwork led to meaningful accomplishments. I'd like to give a heartfelt thanks to Executive Director Kome Ajise, the RC, policy committees, and General Assembly members; this term has been one to remember.
Among the standout successes: the restoration of REAP 2.0 funding in the state budget, supporting local governments in tackling California’s affordability crisis. This milestone was made possible through strong leadership, including LCMC Chair Patricia Lock-Dawson.
The return to in-person collaboration made the better use of time and a deeper engagement. While Southern California’s economy continues to outpace the nation in key sectors, the region must now plan for a future where population growth is no longer a given economic driver.
Tours across the region provided perspective beyond individual jurisdictions, and the annual Sacramento lobbying trip in March reinforced the power of united advocacy—leading to real progress on insurance and planning reform.
With gratitude to First Vice President Cindy Allen, Second Vice President Ray Marquez, and Immediate Past President Jan Harnik, the journey continues. For more achievements, check out the full President’s Report online.
The momentum doesn’t end here—there’s more work ahead in the coming year.
This section focuses on family-friendly events that are happening in the Fourth District and Countywide.
