San Bernardino County Joins Ontario and Chino in New Animal Services Partnership
Ontario, CA - Today, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an agreement with the cities of Ontario and Chino to form the Animal Resource Center of the Inland Empire, a new agency that will provide both animal control and shelter services for the region.
For months, officials from Ontario, Chino, and other west-end cities have been working to develop this partnership, known as a Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement (JPA). The goal is to establish a cost-effective solution for animal care while improving services for both residents and partner agencies.
As part of this initiative, the Resource Center is finalizing the purchase of a 10.62-acre property in Ontario to serve as a permanent animal care facility. While the permanent facility is being designed and developed, a temporary shelter in Ontario is expected to open by July 1, 2025, ensuring continued care for animals in need.
The newly formed JPA requires board representation from participating agencies. Supervisor Curt Hagman has been appointed as the Director, with Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez serving as the Alternate Director. Their districts include areas that will directly benefit from the Resource Center.
"This agreement represents a collaborative effort to improve animal services in our region,” said Supervisor Curt Hagman. “By working together, we are creating a sustainable and effective system that prioritizes both public safety and animal welfare.”
The Animal Resource Center of the Inland Empire will play a crucial role in providing humane and efficient animal services for the region, strengthening the commitment to responsible pet care and public safety.
