Dear Fourth District Residents,
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. My colleagues and I also stand with our residents who are dealing with impacts from strong winds and loss of power. During these challenging times, let's come together as a community and take steps to ensure we're prepared for emergencies here in San Bernardino County.
- When high winds are expected, trim tree branches away from your home and power lines.
- Secure outdoor objects like furniture and garbage cans that can blow away and cause damage.
- High winds may cause power outages. Make sure you have sufficient water and non-perishable food. You should also charge your phone and medical devices.
- Sign up for notification through your energy company so you can receive outage alerts.
I also want to make you aware that the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Fire Weather Watch in effect from Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM through Sunday, January 12, 2025, due to strong gusty winds and low humidity in the Inland Empire and San Bernardino County Mountains.
These weather conditions can cause power outages, and conditions could lead to Southern California Edison (SCE) declaring a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) power outage to prevent fires. For details on potential outages and estimated restoration times, visit the SCE Outage Center. For your safety and the safety of our community, I strongly advise against any outdoor burning during this time.
I also want to make you aware that the South Coast Air Quality Management District extended and expanded the Smoke Advisory through Saturday due to the wildfires in the Los Angeles County. Smoke from the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, and Hurst Fire is expected to most heavily impact coastal, central, and southern Los Angeles County on Friday and Saturday. PM2.5 levels due to smoke may remain at the Unhealthy AQI category or higher in Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, Downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach, and other areas nearby the fire. Smoke may also spread to other parts of the South Coast Air Basin including Orange County, San Bernardino County and Riverside County. AQI due to PM2.5 may reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups or higher categories in these areas.
If you are in an area impacted by smoke:
- Limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity.
- Run your air conditioning and/or an air purifier. If possible, do not use swamp coolers or whole house fans that bring in outside air.
- Avoid burning wood in your fireplace or firepit and minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling.
- If you must be outside, a properly fir N95 or P100 respirator may provide some protection.

Thank you for your cooperation and vigilance. Together, we can help protect our community from potential fire hazards. For more tips, please visit our incident page.
Stay Safe,
