County prepared for possible winter storms
San Bernardino County is heading into winter far better prepared than it was almost two years ago when more than twice as much snow than was predicted fell on local mountain communities. Shortly after the February-March 2023 snowstorms, the county began bolstering the operational and response capabilities of the Office of Emergency Services (OES) and the rest of the county organization.
County celebrates exceptional achievements in addressing homelessness
 After several months of living in their car, Tammie Turner and son Charles Turner have found a stable home with assistance from the San Bernardino County Office of Homeless Services.
San Bernardino County made significant progress in addressing homelessness this year, including securing and investing funding toward the creation of permanent and interim housing units, launching non-congregate shelter with a 93% housing placement rate, and providing shelter and permanent housing for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Monica Hatcher, principal of the Central Valley Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center and the A.R.I.S.E. Secure Youth Treatment Facility, was recognized with the distinguished Tim Fitzharris Award at the 2024 Annual Chief Probation Officers of California (CPOC) awards ceremony. CPOC, an association representing all 58 counties in California, recognizes and celebrates leaders like Hatcher for advancing safety and rehabilitation.
County teams up with DonkeyLand to relocate burros to sanctuary
When our friends at DonkeyLand asked for help to gather roaming undomesticated donkeys in the Reche Canyon area, our San Bernardino County Animal Care team quickly stepped in to assist. Over the past two weeks, our team has worked alongside DonkeyLand to safely gather and transport these wild burros to the sanctuary.
From the US to Hong Kong: Children and Family Services finds a loving home for two siblings
Children and Family Services (CFS) responded to an immediate response referral alleging neglect and absence of caretakers regarding two sibling girls in San Bernardino County, as well as human trafficking concerns. The CFS Social Service Practitioner (SSP) took quick action and collaborated with the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Services, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security to safely remove the girls from their parents’ custody.
San Bernardino County employees donate nearly $20K to feed families for Thanksgiving
San Bernardino County’s Human Services Departments, County Administrative Office and Human Resources Department hosted a virtual holiday food drive in October, raising $19,532 from county employees for the Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC).
Code Enforcement’s Rapid Response Team tackles community concerns
In March, San Bernardino County Code Enforcement introduced a specialized unit: the Rapid Response Team (RRT). Led by Special Projects Supervisor Guillermo Morales, this specialized unit strengthens the division’s ability to tackle complex code enforcement challenges, ensuring quick and effective responses to community concerns.

San Bernardino County Animal Care is set to receive a $25,000 grant investment from “Petco Love” in support of their lifesaving work for pets in San Bernardino County. Petco Love is a national nonprofit organization leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger and healthier.
