San Bernardino County has been awarded $11.82 million in the fifth round of Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) funding from the California Department of Housing and Community Development to support the creation of interim and permanent housing options at the county’s innovative Pacific Village homeless services campus in San Bernardino.
County bolsters winter preparedness with new equipment
 San Bernardino County is gearing up for the winter season with a significant boost to its fleet of snow removal equipment. Over 30 new pieces of heavy machinery, including loaders and blowers, have been added to the county’s arsenal, bringing the total number to over 100 machines.
Ensuring a safe Halloween: San Bernardino County Probation Officers conduct compliance checks on offenders
 While witches, ghosts and goblins took to the streets for Halloween festivities, officers from the San Bernardino County Probation Department were hard at work conducting crucial compliance checks on offenders convicted of crimes against children. With a focus on public safety, these proactive visits help ensure a safe Halloween for families across the county by verifying that certain probationers abide by their Halloween curfews and avoid contact with trick-or-treaters.
Halloween rooftop event at Highland library a big success
San Bernardino County’s favorite Sulcata tortoise, Pumpkin, welcomed thousands of residents to four special Halloween-themed rooftop garden events at his home among many other animals at the Sam J. Racadio Highland Branch Library and Environmental Learning Center from Oct. 26 through Oct. 30, 2024. Many community members may have been surprised to learn that the Highland branch not only provides hundreds of thousands of amazing books, eResources and programs for all ages, but also showcases dozens of birds, reptiles, amphibians and other friendly critters.
County illuminating buildings green in support of veterans
 On Oct. 8, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution declaring Nov. 4-11 as Green Light for Veterans to honor the individuals who have made countless sacrifices for freedom.
Calico Ghost Town hosts spooky weddings on Halloween Day
 On Halloween, Calico Ghost Town became the eerie backdrop for a unique and memorable wedding experience, as ten couples tied the knot in a special collaboration between the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk's office and San Bernardino County Regional Parks. The event, held in the historic ghost town, added a spooky flair to the couples' big day, with the town's old-west charm setting the stage for unforgettable ceremonies.
November is National Adoption Month: Bringing awareness and celebrating forever families
 November is National Adoption Month, a time to raise awareness and celebrate the lasting bonds formed through adoption. This year’s theme is centered on raising awareness about the importance of building lifelong support systems for youth in foster care and connecting them with adoptive families that honor their background, including race, culture and ethnicity. Children and Family Services (CFS) plays a vital role in finding permanent, loving homes for youth when reunification with their biological families is no longer possible.
Athelas testing device to streamline Clozapine monitoring for patients with Treatment Resistant Schizophrenia (TRS)
 The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) has successfully implemented the Athelas Point-of-Care (POC) testing device to streamline Clozapine monitoring for patients with Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia (TRS).
San Bernardino County to strengthen cybersecurity and network management with NetBrain automation
 The county’s Innovation and Technology Department (ITD) will soon manage and monitor the countywide information technology network with enhanced capabilities to support over 40 departments and agencies that serve over 2.2 million residents in San Bernardino County. To safeguard against cybersecurity threats and improve network reliability, ITD plans to implement NetBrain, a powerful network automation platform.
First locally acquired human case of dengue virus reported in San Bernardino County

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health has confirmed the county’s first locally acquired human case of the mosquito-borne illness dengue in the city of San Bernardino. Most dengue cases typically seen in the county are associated with travel to areas where the virus is more common.

Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector (ATC) Ensen Mason is pleased to present another riveting story of the many great county residents who have served in his position since 1853.
Oscar Valdez began his career with San Bernardino County in 2000 as an internal auditor in the Auditor-Controller/Recorder’s office. He was promoted through the ranks, serving as general accounting supervisor, accounting manager and interim chief deputy controller, which included directing activities for the General Accounting, Fund Accounting, Property Tax, Accounts Payable and Payroll sections.
