Rep. Kim secures funding for Sheriff’s body-worn cameras

San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus was recently notified of a Congressionally Directed Funding Request from U.S. Representative Young Kim for an allocation of $1.5 million towards the acquisition of body-worn cameras for the Sheriff’s Department. This critical funding assists the Sheriff’s Department in enhancing law enforcement capabilities.
County Museum unveils Registrar of Voters’ voter education exhibit
County visitors and locals making Labor Day plans should add a visit to the San Bernardino County Museum to their list and be among one of the first to experience a part of San Bernardino County’s election history.
The San Bernardino County Museum and the Registrar of Voters unveiled a new pop-up voter education exhibit today. The exhibit educates San Bernardino County residents and visitors about the county’s rich civic history and reminds them of the role they play in a vibrant, responsive and resilient democracy. Available throughout the fall, San Bernardino County voters will be well prepared to cast their ballots for the Nov. 5 General Election.
A call to action for community support and healing as county celebrates National Recovery Month and Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

In recognition of September as National Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is proud to announce a series of events aimed at promoting mental health awareness, supporting individuals in recovery and preventing suicide. These events will take place throughout September and are designed to engage the community, provide valuable resources and foster an environment of understanding and support.

Groundbreaking marks next phase of Kessler Park revitalization

The Bloomington Recreation and Park District (BRPD) gathered in Bloomington on Tuesday, Aug. 13 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the next phase in the Kessler Park Revitalization Project, known as the Dream Field Project. This significant event, led by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, marks a pivotal moment in ongoing efforts to enhance and modernize the park, promising to bring new life and vibrancy to the area.
 Registration is open for the 38th Annual Children’s Network Conference on Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The conference is one of the Inland Empire’s premier training events open to the public and professionals in social work, mental health, juvenile justice, child development, child welfare, nursing and more. The conference will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel located at 222 N. Vineyard Ave. in Ontario.

Community baby shower event in Apple Valley celebrates National Breastfeeding Month, engages over 150 families

The Department of Public Health celebrated National Breastfeeding Month with a Community Baby Shower at the Desert Mountain Educational Service Center in Apple Valley. The event provided resources, education, games and gifts to breastfeeding and expecting parents.
The Women’s, Infants, and Children’s (WIC) Program in partnership with Black Infant Health, Nutrition and Wellness, SmileSBC, Traffic S.A.F.E., California Home Visiting, Health Ambassadors, and the County Department of Behavioral Health provided attendees with information and resources to help them with their breastfeeding and parenting journey. In addition, Barstow Community Hospital, Global Communities, Inland Empire Health Plan, Providence St. Mary Medical Center, and Social Action Community Health System participated by tabling at the event.
 County offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2. We will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
San Bernardino County destinations
 This week’s San Bernardino County destination is Main Street in Barstow.
Main Street is part of Route 66, the first nationally designated highway system linking Chicago to Los Angeles County. Established in 1926, travelers on Route 66 would pass through San Bernardino County on their way to Santa Monica.
Main Street features historic motels, mining areas, museums, a Harvey House and murals that depict the city’s history. Barstow is also home to the oldest Del Taco restaurant and to Rosita’s Restaurant, founded in 1948 by Rosa Griego, a community icon. Stop by Main Street and relive history!
