For the third consecutive year, San Bernardino County leads all U.S. counties in awards for innovation, efficiency and public service, winning 200 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties. County Chief Executive Officer Luther Snoke presented the news to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, praising County departments and employees for their tireless dedication to excellence.
Nearly $1 million in federal funding has been secured for the septic-to-sewer project in unincorporated Fontana. This funding, championed by Congressmember Norma Torres and accepted by Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez, will enhance the public health of residential and business communities by significantly reducing the risk of groundwater contamination from failing septic systems, minimizing exposure to harmful bacteria and viruses, and ensuring a more reliable and sanitary waste management system for the community.
County provides emergency services to Daggett residents when water supply fails
On June 7, the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services (OES) was notified of a complete failure of Daggett's water distribution system, leading to the loss of the domestic water supply and fire hydrant services. In response, OES coordinated a multi-agency response effort involving the county Public Health (DPH), county Environmental Health Services (EHS), local fire services, county Public Works (DPW), Fleet Management, and California state agencies, and swiftly implemented an emergency water provision plan to support more than 800 affected residents.
Animal Care, Office of Emergency Services, Public Health join forces to promote National Pet Preparedness Month
This National Pet Preparedness Month, the Department of Public Health's Animal Care Division and Preparedness and Response Program, in collaboration with the county Office of Emergency Services, are sharing tips on pet safety. As temperatures rise during the summer months it is important to always consider your pets.
San Bernardino County Children and Family Services (CFS) organized two memorable family picnics to celebrate Foster Care Month in May. These events honored foster, adoptive and kinship families within San Bernardino County. The events held at Scandia Fun Park in Victorville and Fiesta Village in Colton aimed to celebrate and appreciate all the caregivers who provide loving homes and ensure the well-being of at-risk youth.
Starting this summer, low-income families can ensure their children have adequate nutrition while school is out with California SUN Bucks, also called Summer-EBT (S-EBT), a new federal meal program launched by the California Department of Social Services. SUN Bucks is a new permanent program that helps families with school-aged children buy groceries during the summer months, June through August 2024, when children might not have access to school meals.
Ready, set, go! Probation runs to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes
The San Bernardino County Probation Department proudly joined law enforcement agencies from across the state in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes. The Torch Run, a cherished tradition, brings together law enforcement personnel and community members to champion inclusion, unity and athletic achievement for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Between June 1 and June 7, investigators with the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, and multiple patrol stations, along with personnel from California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Probation, Ontario Police Department, Upland Police Department, United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Department of Homeland Security Investigations continued the targeted crime suppression efforts of Operation Consequences.
San Bernardino County expands popular photo destination series to weekly newsletter.
San Bernardino County is pleased to announce that it will expand its new weekly photo series, “San Bernardino County Destinations,” to the County Update newsletter. For the past seven weeks, this new series has been featured on the county’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok. The new series aims to promote the county’s unique landmarks and beautiful natural landscapes as shown through its trails, parks and recreation.

Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector Ensen Mason is pleased to present another fascinating story of the many great county residents that have served in his position since 1853.
Sheridan G. Berger relocated from his hometown of Greenberg, Ohio to Ontario, California. He was initially hired as a member of the clerical staff at the Ontario Post Office. In recognition of his dedication, he was later selected to be the postmaster and held that position from 1899 to 1915. Following this position, he was appointed as the county auditor in 1915 and served in that capacity for eight years.
