Registrar of Voters launches the BallotMobile
In November, the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters launched its first-ever traveling voter education pop-up, the BallotMobile. To support the 2024 Presidential Primary Election, the BallotMobile will visit all 24 San Bernardino County cities and several unincorporated communities. The BallotMobile: Traveling Voter Education tour began last week in Needles and will conclude the 2024 Presidential Primary Election tour at the Registrar of Voters headquarters on Election Day, March 5.

Cajon High School alumnus Jayden Daniels was honored by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday for winning the 2023 Heisman Trophy as America’s top college football player.
A resolution honoring Daniels was brought forward by Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., whose Fifth District includes Cajon High School and San Bernardino, where the football star was born and raised.
Free VITA tax services available for eligible county residents
Beginning Jan. 22, the county Transitional Assistance Department will partner with the IRS to provide free tax preparation and e-filing services to eligible low- to moderate-income taxpayers throughout San Bernardino County. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)/Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program provides free services to eligible individuals and families whose combined household earned income was less than $64,000 in 2023.
Phelan Road bridge replacement reopens ahead of schedule after Tropical Storm Hilary damage
The Phelan Road bridge was damaged by an intense tropical storm and has been closed to vehicular traffic since the end of August. Understanding how important this road is to the High Desert community, the Board of Supervisors and county leadership prioritized this emergency repair.
Don’t move homegrown produce
We need your help! A pest called the Oriental fruit fly has been found in parts of San Bernardino County. The Oriental fruit fly is an invasive pest that attacks over 230 types of fruits and vegetables, ultimately making the produce unfit for human consumption. Your property may be in an established quarantine area, where it is prohibited to move homegrown produce from the property where it’s grown. San Bernardino County residents are being asked to cooperate with agriculture officials who may be in your neighborhood and allow them access to your garden to place traps, inspect plants, conduct necessary treatments or remove potentially affected produce.
Volunteers needed for the upcoming homeless count
The San Bernardino County Homeless Partnership (SBCHP) is seeking volunteers to participate in the annual Point-in-Time Count on Thursday, Jan. 25. Volunteers will work in teams to count the homeless, survey individuals, and provide backpacks filled with essential items.
County Library partners with Raising Cane’s for winter reading program
The San Bernardino County Library is pleased to announce a new partnership with Raising Cane’s restaurant to promote reading among children between the ages of 0-17 this winter. The “Raising Readers with Raising Cane’s” program will run from Jan. 1 to Feb. 29 at all San Bernardino County branch locations.
California Fruit & Vegetable Pilot earns incentives for CalFresh participants
The California Fruit & Vegetable (CF&V) Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Pilot Project is a healthy incentive program that earns CalFresh participants one incentive dollar for every dollar spent on eligible fruits and vegetables with their EBT at Mother’s Nutritional Centers and Rialto Certified Farmers Market.
Participants can earn up to $60 in incentives per month that are automatically credited back to their EBT card to spend on any CalFresh-eligible food (e.g. more fruits and vegetables, bread, grains, nuts, dairy, meat, etc.) at any retail location that is authorized to accept EBT. The incentives are also transferable across county lines.
