Fentanyl doesn't care. But we do.
We want to address a pressing issue: Fentanyl. As a synthetic opioid, fentanyl has become the leading cause of death for Americans under 50, surpassing any other cause. In 2021, our county alone witnessed 354 fentanyl overdose fatalities.
Our response? "Fentanyl Doesn’t Care. But We Do.” This is an awareness campaign initiated by the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. We aim to educate our community about the inherent dangers of this drug, which is 50-100 times stronger than heroin and morphine. Fentanyl doesn’t discriminate; it affects all segments of our community.
"Fentanyl Doesn’t Care. But We Do.” is a collaboration with Stop the Void and the INTO LIGHT Project. The goal is to create awareness about the presence and perils of fentanyl, especially in areas with high overdose rates. We have particular focus on young adults and at-risk underserved communities. The campaign is designed to provide lifesaving resources and enlighten our community about the realities of the fentanyl crisis.
We strongly urge you to talk about the dangers of fentanyl with your children, friends, and loved ones. The campaign will use real stories of lives lost to drug overdoses, making it even more important to have these discussions before it’s too late.
How can you help? Recognize the signs of opioid overdose:
- Small, constricted “pinpoint pupils”
- Falling asleep or losing consciousnes
- Slow, weak, or no breathing
- Choking or gurgling sounds
- Limp body
- Cold and/or clammy skin
- Discolored skin (especially lips and nails)
- If you suspect a family member or friend might be struggling with substance use, don't hesitate to address the issue. Counselors are ready to help design a treatment plan. Reach out to the Substance Use Disorder Helpline at (800) 968-2636 - available 24/7 for free, confidential screening.
Let’s stay informed, safe, and healthy. We can combat this crisis, together.

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (DPH) is inviting the community to celebrate National Health Center Week in San Bernardino, Thursday, Aug. 10 at San Bernardino Health Center Fair, 606 E. Mill St. in San Bernardino.
Serving as beacons to compassionate, high-quality healthcare, health centers across the United States are recognized during National Health Center Week (Aug. 6-12) to emphasize the importance of health centers in the community and the services they provide to the patients they serve.

Health Center Week is a time to reflect on the achievements of health centers and open the doors for residents to see the services that are available in their local communities.
