San Bernardino County Is Fully Open for Business and Tourism
San Bernardino County, along with the rest of the state, is now fully reopened — eliminating various restrictions and saying farewell to the color-coded county tier system. San Bernardino County officially met the qualifications for the Yellow Tier this week, which is moot given all restrictions are now lifted.
Restaurants, bars, retail stores, theaters, hotels and entertainment centers may return to usual operations — meaning no capacity limitations and no requirements for social distancing.
All of California's restrictions on travel outside the state will be lifted, and the state says it is not considering creating a vaccine passport.
Masks still required for the unvaccinated, travelers and health care settings
Fully vaccinated people can now resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, with some exceptions.
- Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals are still required to wear facial coverings outside of their home. The unvaccinated should only take off their masks in public when they're outside and can maintain 6 feet of distance with others.
- Masks are still required in public travel situations including planes, buses, trains, subways, airports and transportation hubs. The TSA will be strictly enforcing mask requirements.
- Other places where vaccinated people will still need to wear masks include health care settings, prisons, homeless shelters and schools.
- In addition, private businesses may choose to continue requiring facial coverings.
And of course, anyone is free to wear a mask anytime they’d like, especially when around children and others who are vulnerable or not yet eligible for vaccination.
As for workplaces, Gov. Gavin Newsom said that he expects State Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), to vote on Thursday to allow vaccinated employees to go maskless in California workplaces. Those not vaccinated would still have to wear masks when working indoors or in vehicles. Once Cal/OSHA makes this announcement, Newsom said he would immediately issue an executive order to put the new rule into effect.
County Revamps, Streamlines COVID-19 Website
Responding to a steady decline in virtually every COVID-19 metric — including new cases, hospitalizations and deaths — San Bernardino County has revised its website devoted to the pandemic and the County’s response to it.
The revamped site has been substantially streamlined to make finding relevant information as simple and easy as possible. Its icon-driven format quickly directs visitors’ attention to linked pages devoted to vaccination appointments, COVID testing and COVID information and resources, including an updated FAQ.
“When the pandemic struck in the spring of 2020, we knew it was essential for the county to host a website where our residents could learn everything they needed to know about the coronavirus, along with the many health orders and programs created in response,” said County Public Information Officer David Wert. “Now, with cases down, our focus is almost exclusively on vaccinations and testing and it was time to update and condense the site to make it easier.”
Wert noted that “Get Vaccinated” is now the most prominent message on the site’s new homepage. That headline links to a page with information about vaccines — including how and where to obtain a free shot. The County’s toll-free telephone hotline and hours of operation are also highlighted prominently.
In the past year, the original site was constantly updated to share information on new conditions, statewide mandates and special County programs ranging from food-delivery for seniors to the COVID-Compliant Business Partnership.
With the state reopening, most of these programs have either concluded or are steadily winding down.
“The new site also features a video banner that spotlights our health care workers, volunteers and other heroes that helped address the pandemic,” said Wert. “It’s good to remember all the people who devoted themselves to helping us get through the past year.”

School Vaccine Initiative Finishes With 99 Events at 50 Schools
San Bernardino County’s effort to expand vaccinations by teaming up with local high schools has proved to be a rousing success—finishing up with 99 total events at 50 schools in 25 school districts, helping the County inoculate young people and residents living in some of the county’s most hard-hit neighborhoods.
While primarily focused on vaccinating people between the ages of 12 and 15, the program was open to any student, family member or community member. Over 6,050 persons were vaccinated through the initiative.
“This has been a tremendous partnership and perhaps our single most successful vaccination initiative,” said Interim Public Health Director Andrew Goldfrach. “Bringing vaccines to local neighborhood schools, rather than making people travel to vaccination sites, enabled us to vaccinate even some of our most hesitant residents.”
Vaccinations were administered by medical professionals from eight partner providers including the County Department of Public Health, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, El Sol, Borrego Health and Inland Empire Health Plan.
Free Vaccination Comes With FREE TACOS in Muscoy
As part of its effort to overcome lingering COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, the County is hosting an event in Muscoy this Friday offering free tacos to residents who agree to receive a shot.
“Who doesn’t love tacos?” said Interim Public Health Director Andrew Goldfrach. “We’re hoping a free and delicious snack will provide the right incentive for residents who have not yet taken a few minutes to get a shot.”
Tacos will be offered to people who visit the Baker Family Learning Center in Muscoy this Friday, June 18 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Every person who agrees to get a vaccination shot (with a choice of either the Pfizer or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) will be given two free tacos.
Walk-ins are welcome. The Baker Family Learning Center is at 2818 North Macy St. in Muscoy. If you have questions please call (909) 387-3911.
