County Launches “Operation Sneakers and Vaccine Speakers” Campaign
Door-to-Door Canvassing Effort Promotes Neighborhood Vaccine Sites, Ease of Access
The County has introduced a new, hyperlocal outreach campaign largely focusing on residents in traditionally underserved communities. The campaign, dubbed “Operation Sneakers and Vaccine Speakers,” will highlight conveniently located, neighborhood-based vaccination sites within those communities while providing additional information about the County’s vaccination program.
The campaign will also help promote the state’s new $116.5 million, multi-faceted vaccine-incentive effort encouraging Californians to get vaccinated before the state’s reopening on June 15 (see related story).
“We want to make sure people understand that getting vaccinated is both easy and convenient,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman. “Residents will learn that vaccination sites are now located literally just down the street, in their neighborhood. We’ll even provide transportation to those who need it. Plus, the shots are absolutely free and there is no requirement for insurance coverage.”
Each vaccination site will be staffed by public health professionals and others well-versed in the issues surrounding COVID-19 and the vaccines. Spanish-speaking representatives will be on hand to support communications with non-English speaking residents, and no reservation is required.
“This is a real ‘boots-on-the-ground’ campaign to remind people that getting protected against COVID-19 is an easy, straightforward process,” said Hagman. “Our goal is simply to inform people about the availability and accessibility of vaccines. We are doing everything we can to remove any obstacles that might discourage residents from getting vaccinated.”
The County has already begun printing a variety of informational materials (flyers, door hangers, posters, etc.) to support the campaign. Staff training, which will focus on customer service, safety, logistics and appropriate messaging, will begin June 4. The campaign itself will launch on June 7 and run for approximately 10 days.
Most of the vaccination sites are open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm. Please check here for more information on vaccination sites and operating hours.
Metrolink Makes Vaccination Part of Your Daily Commute
Many San Bernardino County residents want to vaccinated, but haven’t done so yet because they can’t make time in their busy schedules to find and visit a vaccination clinic.
Metrolink is addressing that need by partnering with public health professionals to provide Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations at Metrolink stations from Montclair through San Bernardino. The first transit station vaccination sites will operate next week from June 8 through Saturday, June 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Montclair, Upland and Fontana Metrolink sites.
“This is a great opportunity for busy commuters and anyone who lives near these stations to protect themselves and those they care about from COVID-19,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman.
200 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be available at each site each day. The sites will operate again on June 29 through July 3 to administer.
The program will be extended to the Rialto, Downtown San Bernardino, and San Bernardino Santa Fe Depot stations from June 15 through June 19 and again from July 6 through July 10.
The Montclair Station is located at 5091 Richton St. The Upland station is at 300 East A Street, and the Fontana station is at 16777 Orange Way.
New Interactive Online Map Shares Vaccination Sites Near You
Residents Can See Both Stationary and Mobile Pop-up Sites
In addition to 14 ongoing County stationary sites distributing doses every week from Tuesday through Saturday, San Bernardino County residents can also use a new interactive map to find any of the mobile, pop-up events happening almost daily from the valley to the deserts.
This online map dashboard shows the sites and dates of all upcoming mobile vaccination events (best seen in Chrome). The stars on the map indicate the stationary vaccine sites throughout our county.
Along with the mobile and stationary sites, there are dozens of hospitals, health centers, clinics and pharmacies that are offering vaccine doses.
“We have reached a point where those complacent or hesitant about getting a COVID-19 vaccine need to take action,” said County Public Health Officer Dr. Michael Sequeira. “Delaying getting your vaccine is an unnecessary risk. There is no reason not to get this shot while there is a possibility of serious illness, long-term problems or even death.”

Get Vaccinated and Win Cash, Receive $50 Gift Cards
This Friday, June 4, anyone who has received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine will have a chance to be among 15 Californians randomly selected to win $50,000. Another 15 people will be drawn on June 11, and finally, on June 15, 10 lucky state residents will each win $1.5 million.
This is all part of a $116.5 million “Vax for the Win” incentive plan announced last week, designed to encourage more people to get their dose. In addition, the next 2 million residents who get vaccinated will receive a $50 online or grocery gift card.
“There are a lot of San Bernardino County residents who want to get vaccinated but haven’t because they have busy lives and higher priorities,” said Board of Supervisors Curt Hagman. “Hopefully the chance at winning a serious amount of state money will drive them to their nearest vaccination center.”
All Californians 12 years or older are eligible. The State will place the winnings of those under 18 into a savings account until they reach adulthood. Program details can be found on the State’s Vax for the Win website.
Becoming eligible for these winnings is easy in San Bernardino County. All 14 County-operated sites (listed above) operate Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All sites are offering the Pfizer vaccine and both appointments and walk-ups are accepted.
There are also dozens of hospitals, health centers, clinics, pharmacies and now even high schools (see accompanying story), that are offering vaccine doses. Residents can check the list at sbcovid19.com/vaccine.
In addition to the ongoing County stationary sites, county residents can also use a new interactive map to find any of the mobile, pop-up events happening almost daily from the valley to the deserts.
