Program Aims to Help Small Businesses |
San Bernardino County small businesses can get funds to offset the cost of complying with current COVID-19 business protocols and receive other benefits by taking part in a recently launched County program.
So far, more than 2,000 area businesses have submitted applications to join the COVID Compliant Business Partnership Program, which is primed to distribute more than $30 million in federal emergency relief funds to qualifying businesses.
COVID Compliant Business Partners can apply for funding of up to $2,500 to help pay for COVID-related expenses, and they can also purchase personal protective equipment directly from the County at cost. For business owners with multiple locations, the first qualifying business location is eligible for $2,500, with each additional eligible business location receiving $1,000.
In addition, businesses receive a window graphic to show customers their commitment to protecting their customers and employees’ health.
In order to qualify for funding, businesses can only have between 1 and 100 employees. Self-employed individuals with no employees are not eligible; however, barbers and hair stylists who rent space are eligible. Non-profit organizations with storefronts are also eligible.
Larger businesses can also participate as a COVID Compliant Business Partners if they have a storefront; however, they are not eligible for funding.
Partners also must demonstrate compliance with State/County public health orders, and incorporate safety and social distancing practices and measures in their business operations, including requiring employees and customers to wear masks.
