County Public Health is also conducting testing at select nursing facilities for at-risk seniors living at those facilities. At all testing locations, people age 65 and older as well as healthcare or public safety workers can get tested even if they are not experiencing any symptoms. This is in addition to residents who are experiencing at least one COVID-19 symptom (fever, cough, or shortness of breath).
Two-Week Testing at Victor Valley College
Victor Valley College (VVC) will serve as a coronavirus testing site for two weeks, beginning today, as part of a partnership between the state of California, the COVID-19 Testing Task Force and OptumServe. VVC is one of 80 community testing sites in the state launched in this program that will boost California’s testing capacity by more than 10,500 tests per day.
Appointments can be made by visiting https://lhi.care/covidtesting or calling (888) 634-1123. Phone registration is only for people without internet access. There will be no on-site registration.
The testing site at VVC will be operational Monday through Friday this week (May 4-8), and Tuesday through Saturday during week two (May 12-16). The college is located at 18422 Bear Valley Road in Victorville, but you must enter via Fish Hatchery Road, currently the only vehicle entrance on campus.
“Thanks to San Bernardino Department of Public Health and to OptumServe for the collaboration to make these testing sites possible,” said Charity Dean, M.D., Assistant Director of the California Department of Public Health. “We’re working together as part of the state’s Testing Task Force to ensure regions with the greatest need have access to tests, and these sites are going to be a major component in reaching our testing goals.”

In case you missed it, you can view last Friday’s video briefing hosted by Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman, with important updates on the plans for a phased reopening, the latest on testing and modeling, and the state of the County’s hospitals to handle other non-COVID-19 medical needs. The San Bernardino Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection facility is now reopen to the public, beginning today, with hours of operation Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extra precautions and restrictions are being implemented to protect residents and staff when collecting hazardous waste.
The collections facility is located at 2824 W St, San Bernardino. Additionally, the following Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) locations will be open to the public as follows:
- In the City of Rialto, HHW collections services at 246 South Willow Ave. are open to the public every 2nd and 4th Friday and Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. to Noon, beginning May 8.
- In the City of Upland, HHW services at 1370 N Benson Ave. are open every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., beginning May 16th.

County Residents Urged to Not Avoid Hospitals, Keep Doctor Visits
County health officials say it is now time to reschedule critical doctor appointments or elective surgeries that may have been postponed the past few months due to the stay-at-home state directives. It is particularly important for parents to maintain their children’s routine medical visits.
Begin by contacting your doctor. County physicians are taking steps within their offices to minimize risks of contracting the virus — ranging from moving patients immediately into private rooms to asking them to wait in their cars until their doctor is ready to see them. And remember, always wear a face cover when visiting your doctor or health facility.
Mental Health Monday with Dr. Veronica Kelley
Here’s another informative video from Dr. Kelley, director of Behavioral Health for the County of San Bernardino. In this tip, she gives great advice on how to reduce anxiety and stress, especially for those who are more susceptible to the coronavirus.
