#HAGMAN - July Edition

news for the fourth district supervisor curt hagman

July 2018

July is National Park and Recreation Month

This July, explore everything your local regional park has to offer! Playgrounds, camping, swim complexes — these are just a few of the things that come to mind when we think of Regional Parks. But, the parks are so much more than that. During Park and Recreation Month, National Park and Recreation Association (NRPA) challenges you to explore the “undiscovered” roles of local regional parks. Redefine how you think about your local parks, and uncover a lifetime of discovery!

s

Cucamonga-Guasti Park is located at 800 N. Archibald Avenue in Ontario and provides over 100 acres of outdoor recreation activities.  At Cucamonga-Guasti Park you can enjoy a wide range of activities including two lakes for fishing, a swim complex with water slides, zero depth water play park, picnic tables and group picnic shelters for every occasion.

d

Prado Regional Park is a one-stop recreational paradise located at 16700 S. Euclid Avenue in Chino.  Prado is unique as it connects San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles counties. This park offers fishing, camping, hiking, biking and nature trails, disc golf and outstanding picnic facilities. Around the park there are even more activities to take advantage of: two 18-hole golf courses, Olympic shooting range, horseback riding, and archery, are just a few of the added adventures you could enjoy at Prado Regional Park.

For more information about a Regional Park near you please visit the San Bernardino County Regional Parks website or the Friends of Regional Parks of San Bernardino County website.

Upland Has a New Police Chief

s

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, the City of Upland announced Darren Goodman, a 27-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and captain of the Chino Hills station, as the new Upland Police Chief.

"Congratulations, Darren! It was a very favorable selection and I'm honored to have been given the opportunity to work with you in Chino Hills, and I am fortunate to continue to be able to work with you in Upland. Wishing you the best of luck in your new role," commented Supervisor Curt Hagman.

Goodman began his career in law enforcement in 1991.  He has worked a variety of assignments - patrol, narcotics, and SWAT. In 2013, he assumed command of the Sheriff's Regional Training Center.

While in Chino Hills, Goodman worked to reduce gaps between police service and public works, code enforcement, mental health services and homeless advocates.

On Monday, June 16, 2018, the City of Upland will administer the Oath of Office to Police Chief Darren Goodman. For more information on the special meeting, please visit the City of Upland website.

1000th Homeless Vet Receives Keys to Home

s

In July 2015, the Board of Supervisors committed itself to find stable housing for all 401 military veterans who were homeless in the county at that time.  That goal was achieved within just four months, but more veterans have been joining the ranks of the county's homeless.

On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, Marine Corps veteran, Quintin Sherard, received the keys to his new home in Fontana. This was a monumental moment as Mr. Sherard was the 1000th homeless veteran to receive a home.

Mr. Sherard had been homeless since 2015, the same year that the County of San Bernardino launched an initiative to end homelessness among its veteran population.

Thank you for your service Quintin, and congratulations on your new home!

Adopt-A-Pet

Thinking about adopting a four-legged friend? Supervisor Curt Hagman has partnered with three local animal shelters to feature adoptable furry friends each month. This month the featured animals are from the Friends of Upland Animal Shelter located in Upland.

a

Randy is a lovable guy who took his puppy playfulness with him into adulthood! He is a Pit-bull and Mastiff mix. He has the size of a Mastiff, and the coat of a brindle Pit-bull! Randy attended Cesar Millan's Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, where he helped his clients learn about dog behavior and how to walk big dogs! He is great with other dogs, preferably his size since he really likes to play and run around! He is waiting to find his
fur-ever home.

Peaches is female Pit-bull mix, who is looking for her
fur-ever family! She is a breeze to walk and ABSOLUTELY adores getting hosed down and chasing the water from the hose. In her down time she loves a good tennis ball to chew up on! She was shy at first, but has definitely come around and shown her beautiful personality and calm demeanor!

Cassie has been at the Friends of Upland Animal Shelter since February 7, 2018. She is 3 ½ years old and her favorite thing to do is cuddle! She is pretty active and loves to run around and play with toys. The toy with the bell inside is her favorite.  She also LOVES food. Dry food, wet food, treats and snacks. You name it, she’ll eat it! She loves affection from people and other cats. She also doesn’t mind hanging around dogs. She's very social and loves to be petted on her favorite spot right under her chin. She can’t wait to find her fur-ever home; she's going to make the perfect best friend for anyone who wants love just as much as she does!

For more information on how to adopt Randy or Peaches, please contact
