Hagman Leads San Bernardino County Investment and Trade Delegation Mission to China

NL

San Bernardino County Economic Development Agency, led by Vice Chairman Curt Hagman, in partnership with Ontario International Airport Authority, embarked on a nine-day investment and trade delegation mission to China in February 2017.

"These are the first ever formal partnerships between San Bernardino County and foreign governments in over 160 years of San Bernardino County history," said Hagman.  With the support of the Board of Supervisors, and respective cities, the parties made a joint effort to strengthen the respect, trust, understanding and cooperation between people and business.  "The opportunities as a result of this increased cooperation could lead to mutually beneficial outcomes for both parties in areas of job creation, technology, infrastructure development, logistics and manufacturing," Hagman stated.

In addition to signing the Memorandum of Understanding with Wuxi, Jiangsu Province China and Taoyuan City, Taiwan, the delegation engaged in high-level meetings with government officials, businesses and airline executives to solidify relationships and to introduce investment opportunities that could lead to job creation in San Bernardino County.

"This mission was important for the purpose of developing stronger relationships and business to business partnerships between our regions," noted Hagman.  "I am encouraged by the outcome of the dialogue that took place and although no business deals were made, we came away with a wealth of information and partnership that will enable our local businesses to grow and increase jobs."

A large part of the mission also included the introduction of Ontario Airport to several overseas airports including: China Eastern, China Airlines, China Postal Airlines, Eva Airlines, Hainan Airlines and others.

Prado Park Repairs

If you traveled to Prado Park in March or even as of recently you may notice the lake is going through some changes.  San Bernardino County Park officials began to drain the lake to repair a network of concrete pipes from the lake's diversion system.

There are three diversion pools in the lake that remove waste and other debris from the water.  The water then diverts down through a concrete tube and washes out next to the lake.  Those concrete tubes have cracks in them from the normal wear and tear causing the water to not properly divert water.  The result of the water not properly diverting could be mosquitos congregation over stagnant water.

"We want to ensure that the infrastructure is properly maintained and running.  As soon as the proper repairs are made, the lake will be filled up and restocked with fish, including large-mouth bass," said Vice Chairman Curt Hagman.

Along with restocking the fish, County Parks plans to add dead trees to the lake floor to provide places for the fish and turtles to hide from predators.  The reservoir is expected to return to its normal capacity sometime at the end of summer.

State of the County Address

nl

On March 8, 2017 San Bernardino County leaders shared a vision of economic strength and growth at the annual State of the County event.

There Chairman Robert Lovingood spoke about how real estate, e-commerce job growth and the arrival of locally grown businesses are opening new markets and opportunities for a highly skilled local workforce.

"If we look at this past year, there was substantial growth within the bi-county areas, and there were 15,000 new jobs created for the county," Chairman Lovingood stated. "You have up-markets in health care, up markets in business services, up-markets in manufacturing," Lovingood continued.

The county is on a very strong foundation right now.  "On Nov. 1, we got Ontario International Airport back and that is a big plus for the economy," Vice Chairman Curt Hagman stated."We're going forward with infrastructure projects throughout the county."

Some of the other speakers in the economic presentation video included entrepreneurs Jack Dangermond of the Redlands-based Esri digital mapping company; Chris Ma, CEO of the Ontario-based Vantage LED company; and Ben Cook, owner of Hangar 24 Brewery in Redlands.
