Supervisor Josie Gonzales attended over a dozen meetings with multiple federal legislators and delegates last week in Washington D.C. during her visit to attend the National Conference on Ending Homelessness.
Meetings were held with (in chronological order) Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA), Travis Norton, Counsel to Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), Jackson Droney of Senator Barbara Boxer's Office (D-CA), Darin Schrader of Congressman Ed Royce's Office (R-CA), Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Congressman David Price (D-NC), Congressman Paul Cook (R-CA), Congresswoman Norma Torres (D-CA), Jennifer Duck of Senator Diane Feinstein's Office (D-CA), and Minh Ta of Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI).
Sup. Gonzales also met with federal representatives Harriet Tregoning, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Community Planning & Development of HUD; and Lisa Pape, Exec. Director of Veterans Health Administration Homeless Program Office.
The goal of the visit was to advocate on behalf of the County of San Bernardino and share how the county is utilizing best practices and a comprehensive multi-agency effort in addressing homelessness in order to receive increased federal support to help solve local issues.
Accompanying Sup. Gonzales in those meetings were Ted Alejandre, County Superintendent; CaSonya Thomas, Director of the Department of Behavioral Health; Tom Hernandez, Homeless Services Manager; Frank Guevara, Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs; Dan Nackerman, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of San Bernardino County; Brenda Dowdy, Homeless Education Program Specialist with San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools; Laura Mancha, member of the San Bernardino County Board of Education and Community Liaison for Sup. Gonzales; and Kent Paxton, Homeless Policy Advisor for Sup. Gonzales.
