In his book, The High School, acclaimed sociologist Michael A. Messner explores 120 years of Salinas High School yearbooks—his own alma mater, where his father taught and coached. From surprising insights—like all-male cheerleading squads in the early 1900s—to the impact of Title IX, Messner examines how sports, culture, and gender roles have shaped generations of students.
