Mary Smathers launched her bilingual children’s picture book series, “Tropical Tales," in 2022. Each book features an ocean or jungle animal from the tropics who faces a challenge that young children might experience. Mary hopes that these stories will help introduce the existence of different languages, and the concept of bilingualism, to very young children.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a tradition mainly represented in Mexico. Día de los Muertos has a special significance because it’s the day we remember our deceased loved ones. Sometimes these dates are accompanied by nostalgia and our grief becomes more present. Join us to a talk about how we can turn that grief into an opportunity to create an ofrenda (offering) to honor and remember our loved ones.
