Checking in from Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries

city of roseville

Hello!

We wanted to check in and let you know that we are thinking about all of you and hope you and yours remain safe and healthy.

The Placer County Health official has allowed her order to expire as of May 1, 2020. What does that mean? Well, frankly, we are trying to figure that out. Here’s what we know:

·       With the expiration of the County order, we now fall directly under the governor’s Executive Order.

·       Certain outdoor activities will be allowed to open to the public

·       Physical distancing and face coverings remain recommendations

The community is anxious for our parks and facilities to open, and for our programs to resume. We want that, too. But we need to proceed thoughtfully, and with everyone’s health and safety at the forefront. We are currently working on a phased reopening plan.

This week, we saw dog parks, sports courts (tennis, basketball and volleyball), sports fields and park restrooms opening. Our golf courses reopened on April 18th. These have opened with specific parameters outlined for use so that community health and safety can be assured.

Additional phases are being planned to roll out further re-openings including our recreation and library facilities. It is unknown at this point how long each phase will last. We continue to monitor the state guidelines as they change and we will make adjustments.

When our facilities/programs/operations do resume, they will look different than they did before. Many staff may continue to work from home for a period of time. We may have staggered work shifts. Virtual meetings may become the norm. Programs will likely have lower participant maximums, and use of some facility amenities may be by “appointment only”. Physical distancing will be the expectation for quite some time.

Our hope is to bring back our part-time staff as areas reopen and where full-time staff cannot fill the void. Some seasonal staff with specific expertise on the Parks side may be needed sooner as the weather heats up and mandated work to ensure public safety (eg fire breaks) and/or protection our public infrastructure (eg park, open space and urban forestry assets) becomes more critical.

Prior to your re-hire, you will receive an offer letter from our Human Resources Department. Since you received written correspondence when the layoff occurred, we want you to receive a written communication of your re-hire. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to your Supervisor. We are also working with HR to streamline the re-hiring process.

Please know that we miss you. In the interim, here is a link to the state EDD. https://www.edd.ca.gov/

Stay safe and well.
