 Dear Third District Resident,
As we welcome the summer season, I hope you are enjoying opportunities to spend time with family, connect with neighbors, and take part in the many events and activities happening throughout the Third District. June is a time of celebration and reflection as we recognize graduates embarking on new journeys, honor fathers and father figures for their guidance and support, and commemorate Juneteenth, a reminder of the importance of freedom, resilience, and unity.
The strength of our communities comes from the people who call them home. I am continually grateful for the residents, volunteers, educators, public safety personnel, business owners, and community leaders who work every day to make the Third District a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Looking ahead, I am excited to announce that my office will host the 2026 State of the Third District this September. This year’s theme, Growing Strong for Children and Families, will highlight the investments, partnerships, and initiatives helping to build a brighter future for the next generation. Additional details available in District News below.
As we continue working together to strengthen our communities, I remain committed to supporting the programs, services, and opportunities that help children, families, and seniors thrive. Thank you for your continued engagement and partnership as we build a stronger future for the Third District.
Sincere Regards,
|

2026 Woman of the Year: Leah DiBernardo
Each year, we are proud to recognize an outstanding woman whose leadership, service, and commitment make a lasting impact across the Third District. For 2026, we are honored to recognize Leah DiBernardo as our Third District Woman of the Year.
Leah is a local chef, restaurant owner, entrepreneur, and community leader whose dedication to our region runs deep. For more than 16 years, she has strengthened our community through a wide range of hands-on mentoring, education, and support efforts. She is the founder of initiatives such as Girls Gather Temecula and Field to the Fork, and has led school garden programs, supported local farmers, and mentored students across the region. Through this work, and many other efforts to uplift and connect residents, Leah has helped cultivate opportunity, learning, and a stronger sense of community throughout the Third District.
At the heart of her work is a belief in bringing people together around purpose. Leah turns vision into action, creating spaces where learning, growth, and collaboration can thrive. Her impact is felt not only in classrooms and gardens, but also across the broader community she continues to uplift.
We are also excited to highlight Leah’s latest project, a new podcast series that showcases changemakers across the Inland Empire. Through these conversations, she shines a light on individuals who are driving positive change in our communities. I encourage you to watch and listen to these inspiring stories on YouTube and be part of the ongoing work to strengthen our region.
I was honored to join Leah as a guest on At the Table with Leah DiBernardo. It was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the experiences that have shaped my commitment to public service and community.
Leah’s work reminds us of the power of storytelling, service, and connection. We are grateful for her leadership and proud to recognize her as the 2026 Third District Woman of the Year.

2026 Volunteer of the Year: Jami McNees
Each year, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors recognizes individuals whose compassion, resilience, and dedication uplift our communities and improve the lives of others. For 2026, we are honored to recognize Jami Buchanan McNees as the Third District Volunteer of the Year.
Jami has devoted her time, expertise, and personal resources to serving individuals and families throughout Southwest Riverside County, making a meaningful and lasting impact across our region. Although she did not initially set out to work in health insurance, she found her calling in helping others navigate complex healthcare systems and access critical services. During the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, she became a trusted resource for countless residents seeking guidance and support during a time of major transition.
Her commitment to service is both professional and deeply personal. As a cancer survivor, Jami experienced firsthand the challenges patients face when navigating treatment and insurance coverage, including a situation where she was mistakenly denied coverage after hospital discharge. Through determination and advocacy, she successfully resolved the issue herself, an experience that further strengthened her commitment to ensuring others do not face those same barriers alone.
Today, Jami dedicates her time to assisting cancer patients at no cost, helping them understand their coverage, access necessary care, and find support during some of life’s most difficult moments. Through her volunteer service with Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center, as well as referrals from local medical providers, she provides guidance, advocacy, and hope when it is needed most.
In addition to her hands-on service, Jami has contributed to nonprofit organizations throughout Southwest Riverside County, reflecting her extraordinary generosity and long-standing commitment to strengthening the community she calls home.
Jami Buchanan McNees exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism, quietly and consistently stepping forward to lift others, remove barriers, and ensure that no one walks through crisis alone. We are proud to recognize her as the 2026 Third District Volunteer of the Year and extend our deepest gratitude for her service, compassion, and dedication to the residents of Riverside County.
