I look forward to conducting the meetings in a professional manner while also highlighting the phenomenal work of our 23,000+ employees as we represent all 2.5+ million residents of Riverside County. January is National Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month
The month of January is an important time to raise awareness of human trafficking and to reflect on how each of us can play a role in the fight against it. Human trafficking is the exploitation of a person for labor, services, or for commercial sexual labor. It is considered one of the fastest growing illegal industries in the world and is estimated to generate approximately $150 billion dollars annually in illicit profits. Consequently, the International Labor Organization reported that an estimated 25 million people were subjected to human trafficking and forced labor daily in 2016.
To help mitigate these malicious crimes, you can report your concerns about a potential trafficking situation or get help for a person who may be a victim through contacting the National Human Trafficking Hotline by calling 1-888-373-7888 or texting 233733.

Riverside County Annual Blue Light Ceremony
Last month, we held the annual Blue Light Ceremony inside of the Board Chambers at our County Administrative Center, presented by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. This momentous occasion commemorates Riverside County law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve their community, as well as show support for their families. The blue light symbolizes our remembrance of those who have passed on and honors the officers who continue their work today.

Vienza at Europa Village Grand Opening
This past weekend, Third District staff and I celebrated the grand opening of the new Vienza Winery at Europa Village with a ribbon cutting ceremony. This long-awaited expansion introduces the next phase of Europa Village with the introduction of Vienza as their largest addition to the resort yet, while offering samplings of Italian wine. It also encompasses an Italian-styled Delicatessen and Market, an outdoor and indoor tasting room, and a Grand Ballroom. This new addition to the community will serve as a European-inspired destination in the heart of Temecula, further expanding tourism while simultaneously growing our local economy.
We are very excited for the future of Europa Village and cannot wait to celebrate their next endeavor. Congratulations on the grand opening of Vienza at Europa Village!

Project Touch’s “Shelter from the Storm” – A Mission of Faith Fundraising Dinner
Chief of Staff Robyn Brock, Senior Legislative Assistant Sundae Sayles, and my wife Kathy and I joined community leaders for the Project Touch “Shelter from the Storm-A Mission of Faith” fundraiser dinner last month.
This event helps raise funds to provide transitional housing for families experiencing a crisis in their life and have become on the verge of being homeless. We also received an update at the dinner on the Wildomar Life Restoration Campus Phase 1. My colleague, First District Supervisor Kevin Jeffries, and I each proudly invested $1 million in ARPA funds to provide transitional housing and wraparound care for those experiencing homelessness.
My heart is filled with gratitude for Project Touch as I think about those who will be served by the first phase of this campus — the Third District is thankful for partners like you!

Community Highlight: Menifee Santa’s Workshop
This month, we would like to highlight a wonderful organization in the thriving Third District.
Menifee Santa’s Workshop is a multi-collaborative organization that makes the holidays bright for local children in need through donations of new, unwrapped toys for children between 0-12 years old. Accompanied by volunteers starting at age 14 years old and up, their annual event encompasses a photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a selection of goodies in the toy room of which children choose a few items sorted by size and age appropriateness, stuffed animals, puzzles, books, and board games, with a coat drive with help from the Lion’s Club and more treats! Our Riverside County Fire department was also in attendance to help sort and facilitate the gifts.
We were grateful to participate in such a wonderful event. Thank you to all the volunteers and organizers for all that you do to help our community!
